Making some progress in FFIV The After Years. Okay, I'm starting to love this. One of my complaints recently about FFIV after finishing it again is that it just feels so short, I want more... and well this is it!

The Hooded Man. haha.

Finally, a couple of challenging brawls in the SNES FFIV. I delved deep into the final dungeon today and managed to snag Murasame, Masamune, the Ribbon Helmets, the Crystal Sword, and the White Lance, amongst other loot(like the full Crystal armor set).

Plague(the guard of the White Lance) managed to get a party wipe because I made a few bad decisions during the first try. I remedied that on the second and barely managed to scrape out a victory as the final second clicked out for my party members.

Pale Dim(Murasame's guard)...well, he wasn't as powerful as I expected. I thought I was going to be in trouble, but when I saw how little damage he did with Quake on my party, I just hit him with everything and that was that.

The D. Lunars(Ribbon Helmet guards) were a bit tougher, especially once I managed to kill one and the other began retaliatory spamming of his massive Flame attack. That pissed me off, so I nuked him with everything but the kitchen sink.

Ogopogo(Masamune's guard)...now that was a fight. He's tough, especially with his dual big wave attacks. I kept Rosa on heal duty and even had Edge back her up a few times with Cure2 items if needed. Rydia's Bahamut spam really won the fight though.

And then there was the Wyvern fight. To this point, that was the most challenging boss I've faced in the game. He started with his Meganuke(or whatever it's called), then cast wall on himself and began bouncing Nukes off of it. Whenever Rydia used Bahamut, he'd retaliate with his Meganuke. It made for an awesome battle. Edge dropped, so did Kain, and it really got down to the wire, with Rosa and Rydia pulling healing duty on themselves and Cecil, with Rosa alternately casting Wall to knock back his Meganuke. But in the middle of the fight, Wyvern healed himself, and I decided to gamble. I figured if he had to heal, he was close to death, so I had Rydia summon Bahamut knowing full well that if Wyvern didn't die, his response would wipe out the party.

I gambled and won.

The party levels are in the upper 50s, except Cecil, who is in the mid-70s thanks to the dead-party XP trick and his brand new Crystal Sword, still wet with Wyvern's blood.

Haha Ack, yeah like I said the Wyvern / Bahamut II fight was probably the toughest in the game next to Zeromus and I won by a gamble too, he knocked everyone in my party after awhile except Rydia who was dead no matter what in one more hit, but I luckily got off another Bahamut summon and took him down. Crazy.

Have fun with the final boss.

Beat him this morning. He was easier than Wyvern, but that's at least in part because Cecil was level 99(I power leveled a lot yesterday). I just had Rosa on full healing duty, backed by Edge with items once he was out of Ninja shuriken. Cecil attacked, Kain jumped, Rydia summoned Bahamut, and Zeromus died.

Overkill lol.

Next time around if you ever replay it, you should play the PSX Chronicles version since it's the hard type. That's what I played first and it's definitely a different beast.

The GBA/PSP versions are definitely super easy as well, maybe even moreso than the SNES version, I'm not sure (I know both the GBA/PSP version have this weird ATB bug that can make enemies turns get skipped at times, weird).

They're not quite as easy as the SNES version. That version was intentionally made to be as easy as possible. The GBA/PSP versions would be able to provide at least some semblance of a challenge to a fresh FF IV player, but the ATB bug makes the first 3/4ths of the game super easy for sure. The PSX version is definitely the way to go for the most authentic FF IV playthrough (assuming the original SFC game is out of the question).

Does the PSP version have the ATB bug? I know the US GBA version did, but that was fixed in the EU version.

But yeah, the most egregious example of the ATB bug is when you fight against the demon wall. It's really depressing how easy he is.

I played the US version and it did. It's not present in the EU GBA version though? That's very interesting. I would even buy it just to check it out if that's the case. You mean this version I take it?

I've also heard that the remake on mobile phones fixes the ATB bug (amongst other changes, supposedly). I've seen people claim it's the "best version" because of the bug fix, although I don't know how anyone outside of Japan would have access to it.

Damn, so if the GBA/PSP version wasn't easy enough... Ack just finished the Imp version.
