I've gotten to the point where as soon as I walk up to the counter, I tell them I'm not preordering anything, I don't want a card, I don't want the magazine, and just give me my game. I still don't like it, but my only other options are Hastings, Walmart, the internet, or going to Austin... and despite all the fun that can be had, I avoid Austin.

Czernobog wrote:^Yeah, I kinda felt like I was doing a verbal questionnaire the last few times I was at Gamestop. I always feel bad for the employees because I worked at a couple places where I had to do that and I actually could get written up for not getting enough orders from customers. It was really annoying when it was stupid overpriced shit nobody in their right mind would buy.

I hate going to any Gamestop other than my local one for this reason.

"Would you like to pre-order..."
"No"
"Would you like to upgra-"
"No"

If they actually asked me if I wanted to pre-order something I'd be likely to buy, that'd be different. But it's always for a system I don't own. No I don't want that 360 game. I don't own the system!

Now at my local store they don't ask those questions, because they know what I have and what I'm likely to buy.

"Skyward Sword is coming out soon....Don't suppose you'd like to pre-order that?"
"....Yes. Yes I would."

Also, after the 3rd time, they finally stopped carding me

Maybe next time I'll try to remember to be fun.

"Would you like to pre-order Brown & Red 7:The Bloominating?"

"Purple"

"Are you sure, you get a free in game feather for your cap called macaroni."

"Peanut butter"

"Oookkaaaaaayyyyyy. Would you like to buy a used copy of the game? You'll save 11 cents."

"Wankel rotary engine"

"You could just say no"

*make origami out of my money*

I will never forget the one time I bought a brand new game at GameStop.

I live in Canada, but somehow I had acquired $50 in store credit for the US chain. I was visiting friends in Michigan, so I stopped at GS to grab Mechassault for the Xbox. It was $50.

The clerk kept harassing me to buy a used copy for $45. I told him I didn't want a used copy, and besides, it would be a long time before I could come back to the store to use the remaining $5 credit. He just kept going on and on about it. At one point he even suggested spending the extra $5 on a random used PlayStation 1 game. I didn't even have a PlayStation!

Eventually he caved and gave me a "new" copy of the game. On the way home I open the game to read the manual. After a few minutes I realized that the copy he gave me was a re-sealed used game! It did not have the white security strip, instead having that generic bubbly shrink wrap. There were a few specks of dirt on the game, but no scratches, so I didn't bother going back.

honestly, I just let them ask what they're being forced to ask. No I don't like it. But I spent enough years in retail to know that it sucks asking, but if you want a paycheck you do what you gotta do.

Oh I know, and don't want to be an ass to the employee if they're being pleasant but the policies are annoying and if a manager is in earshot they're more likely to remember someone being silly about it.

So I had to go in today with a friend. They asked me if I wanted to preorder COD: 14- They're Still making this crap, and I replied with...

"I don't want that crap. I wanna preorder Battletoads."
"Um, what system is that for?"

He had fallen for it.

"How don't you know? All major systems."
"So you want a copy of Battletoads for Xbox 360?"
"Yes."
"It's not in the computer, lemme get my manager."

We had already gotten what we bought paid for at this point, so we bailed before the manager got to us. We were cracking up.

Not even an hour ago, I was talking to a friend about this joke because he just had an interview at GameStop.
