Smile: The ACC Tournament starts in about one hour.
For those who don't live in North Carolina, this tournament basically causes our state to stop for a few days. A whole lot of sick days are taken, and the people who are at work spend most of their time watching the tournament.
It's bigger than the Superbowl "round these parts". Although I pull for Duke when it comes to this time of year, I'm sporting an NC State shirt, a red zip-up hoodie, and of course pants.
I need to make a beer run as I will have company over, but I'm set with tons of junk food and weisswurst.
Game on!

It's that time of the year again, eh? I work on the same floor as Turner's NBA department, and they do a lot of work with the NCAA as well, so things are ramping up around here. March is one of our biggest months.Luke wrote:Smile: The ACC Tournament starts in about one hour.

If you work for Turner, could you please ask them to revive Law And Order, at least long enough for Dick Wolf to do the finale he'd planned before NBC turned him down flat? The show deserved better than to be unceremoniously dumped the way it was.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

Haha, I'm afraid I don't have that kind of pull yet. That would involve a lot more work on the studio side, particularly the TNT section of TEN. I'm in NetOps, and while I do some work fo TEN and CTN, I don't have the kind of sway needed to be able to pull that off.Retrodude wrote:If you work for Turner, could you please ask them to revive Law And Order, at least long enough for Dick Wolf to do the finale he'd planned before NBC turned him down flat? That said, if I could save the original to give it a proper ending, I would. It deserved a proper send off after two decades, but NBC killed it for Law & Order: LA...and then dumped it after a year too.

Turner Classic Movies.
The station that forgot Frank Sinatra had blue eyes, and was called "blue eyes".
The advert revenue from sports must be the Mother's milk, correct?
You don't have to answer that.

No, I will. Yes, it is. March Madness nets us our biggest cash haul from advertising revenue. We make over a third of all our advertising revenue in just that month, which equates to about a sixth of our total income. Turner only gets about half its income through ad sales. The other half comes from subscription services, which is how TCM makes its money.Luke wrote:Turner Classic Movies.

Yeah but atleast they play real old movies, unlike AMC. But that might be because Turner bought the rights...Luke wrote:Turner Classic Movies.

Also keep in mind, each network is basically a mini-company within a larger operation. Each network maintains its own revenue streams, and all of our expenditures are credited back to them. TCM is actually one of our two most cut-off networks(if you consider Adult Swim a network). They use their own databases and services which the rest of the company doesn't always have access to.fastbilly1 wrote:Yeah but atleast they play real old movies, unlike AMC. Thanks Duder. I figured as much, but thought I'd throw that question out there.
I would love to do a case study on the Turner tv empire. With a few stations, as well as everything else owned by Turner, there has to be a team of financial geniuses that check and balance the multiple books. I'm sure some stations are not profitable, but others more than make up for the loss.
Balancing Product Lines = Interesting business to me. Not being a jerk, I really get into this kind of analysis.
Frown: ACC get together has been a bust so far. Things should pick up when the NC State game tips-off.
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Honestly I couldn't say, though from what I hear, all of the major networks are successful. If Adult Swim were a 24-hour network, it would be the most successful network in television. Both TNT and TBS are doing well, Cartoon Network continues to perform, TCM continues at a steady rate, and TruTV has been improving steadily ever since we bought it. Right now CNN is probably the worst off, but it still operates at a profit due to ad sales. In fact, Turner pulls in something like 60% of Time Warner's revenue, alongside Warner Bros. and HBO. I don't know how successful DC Comics is, though right now Time is the biggest question and appears to be splitting off, based on the news reports I've seen.Luke wrote:Ack wrote: No, I will.
