Exactly why I now have 8 imports for SFC(bad thing is the the translation patch r9 did for the last one, Bokujou Monogatari, doesn't seem to want to load....)
*sigh* back to the drawing board...

I agree with that.MrPopo wrote:When it starts to do things like destroy relationships or harm to your body or getting you to lose your job that's when it's an addiction.
The point I'm trying to make, is that any activity can be addictive if the person has an affinity to becoming addicted to activities. But just because they personally might become addicted to a particular activity, that does not mean that activity itself is inherently addictive.

I don't know man. I used to be addicted to WoW...like life destroying addicted....and so were many people. After I quit I was disgusted by myself...and it was way worse when I tried the game again after 4 years. I realized the game was SHIT. It was just....addicting....but I've never been addicted to anything else, and I can put off video games for a long time if needed....so the two facts that A) I actually found the game utter shit when I wasn't addicted anymore (remind you guys of a dried leafs related addiction?) and B) I haven't been addicted to anything else, make me think that it's more about the activity and not the person.Exhuminator wrote: The point I'm trying to make, is that any activity can be addictive if the person has an affinity to becoming addicted to activities. Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Or perhaps that activity was your own personal addictive Achilles' heel. I tried WoW years ago, I found it to be a waste of time. I didn't even come close to being addicted to it. So in our case you have a gamer who did not become addicted to that particular game, while another gamer did. We both experienced the same activity, but not both us became addicted. That says the activity is not necessarily automatically addictive like say heroin or crack is.ZeroAX wrote:make me think that it's more about the activity and not the person.

Do it.Sload Soap wrote:Tempted to get a Retron 5. It would certainly save a lot of space and I wouldn't have to faff about with region unlocking carts (which don't really work anyway) and I could actually buy some for real NES games. It's still £30 more than I'm willing to play though.

If only I actually understood Japanese....I'm hoping that R9 gets the message I sent him and possibly makes a new patch I want to play my cheap-er sfc harvest moon so bad(just to at least see why the hype, though I'm sure now that i have the japanese cart emulating on my computer would be more legal(or android if I could get the ps3 controller working on that cheapo verizon tab I have...))....hrmmTSTR wrote:^Haha, it kinda does. Games like WoW is where it gets sticky for me, as they're legitimately designed to trap people who are susceptible to becoming addicted.ZeroAX wrote:I don't know man. Yeah it's not making you dependent on a chemical level like a drug and I'm not calling for MMOs to be banned or limited or anything but they're uncomfortably close to the same psychological trickery as casinos at times.
I guess what I'm trying to say is games are not drugs, but to many people they can be and some games are designed to be inherently more addictive than others. I'm not bashing on games like WoW saying this, I occasionally play MMOs myself. Personal responsibility is key here, but then I guess you could say the same thing of drug abuse.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Therein lies the rub. Something cannot be addictive unless someone is susceptible to addiction. That's why someone saying "video games are addictive" I do not believe is inherently true. It's a case by case basis per person.Gunstar Green wrote:they're legitimately designed to trap people who are susceptible to becoming addicted
