Yup. I don't know a single Mainer who deals with HOA nonsense. Not many 'burbs here.

It is nice knowing that they are taking the time and effort, but to me they seem so impersonal. Whenever possible, I'd rather give and receive congrats and such in person.
To be honest, it's the gift cards and cash I was hoping for. Not expecting, but hoping for.
Never do things to expect something in return, but sometimes family can let you down. Big time.
Smile: I posted on fb: Daily reminder: I have a meeting with Cliff Huxtable at the Four Seasons in twenty minutes.
And TWO of my friends got my reference (no, not the Cosby Show). It is going to be interesting to see which of my friends actually "get" my daily reminders.Abe Froman's reservation will be mentioned tomorrow.

Personally, I think HOA is a good idea to help keep up the standards of a neighborhood which helps maintains the property values. All it takes one clown who doesn't maintain their property before you appreciate having rules for the neighborhood. Not everyone takes pride in keeping their house/land in good shape and tastefully done.fastbilly1 wrote: I have nothing against HOAs if there is a reason to them, or if you are in a condo/townhome. But I live on alittle over an acre and the guy around the corner from me who lives on two acres has chickens. And in talking to my neighbor who has lived here for 20 years he said the HOA repairs the roads... So I have them dropping off a copy of the bylaws today. After reading my neighbors they claim that I cannot park on the street and that they can decide what color flowers I can grow, now his are outdated so we are waiting for the new ones - he too was told it was dissolved.
I would suggest that you start attending HOA meetings and getting involved. There should be a financial report that you should be able to get access to in order to find out where the money is being spent.

So far,
Smile: A member sent me a very nice PM that made me feel welcome here. It's not often that I even come close to making a friend.
Tick: Just took down an entire server accidentally. I'm a horrible Admin -.-

I live 40 minutes south of Nashville, in the country. Less than four minutes from my house there are three different cattle farms.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Houses in a city (or out in the country) generally do not have HOAs. (I live very close to downtown Charlotte, and none of the neighborhhods near me have them.) They are more of a suburbs thing.Hobie-wan wrote:Damn that sucks man. I saw the financial report from last year, and like I said previously, they claim it cost 5k to keep the lights at the front of the neighborhood operational, and they are solar powered They also claim that they have to have 40k to "maintain the roads," which are marred with potholes and maintained by the county. There is also a sum of roughly 20k going to the "volunteer board members salary" which when I asked them about they just did not respond.gtmtnbiker wrote:Personally, I think HOA is a good idea to help keep up the standards of a neighborhood which helps maintains the property values. Honestly, if they want me to pay dues to keep the lights on at the entrances, thats fine. Ill pay that, hell Ill pay for the lights and maintain them myself if they want me to. But they also claim that our dues are used to maintain the lake - which is a private lake that we do not have access to, so I called bullshit. They only have one meeting a year, the one they tried to fine me for not attending, when I did not know it existed. Honestly, if someone doesnt want to keep up their lawn, that's fine, but their are county laws that mandate that in most counties. People should not need a mini government with too much power to enforce the rules. My biggest issue with HOAs is that they can decide they do not like something I have done with my house, say by having a greenhouse. And either come on my property and knock it down, or fine me. And if I dont pay the fine they can put a lien on my house. I own my property and if I want to put in a greenhouse I should be able to. Since some people with too much free time do not like the idea of me having a greenhouse, well I cannot have one. So jokes on them, since I cant have a green house, I might be turning my backyard into a solarium (which is not against the rules).
So yesterday I involved my realestate agent asking why she sold me a house if she new an HOA was there when she told me there wasnt one. Apparently the selling agent lied to her to close the deal. So her company is about to sue the selling agents company on our behalf. So itll be more fun.
But on the smile side, I have a working vectrex coming my way with a great picture on the tub and very low wear and tear on it. I do not know if the 3d imager works, but I have someone chomping at the bit to buy it from me (mostly because he has one of the 3d games and can sell it as a package).

I hope I'm wrong, but this isn't happening. When you signed on the line, the deal was done. I don't think Buyer Beware applies more to anything than it does when coming to the purchase of a house.fastbilly1 wrote:

I totally understand your frustration though.

Her company claims they have a case. I am just letting them handle it, its out of my hands. Honestly, we are going to try and make it a year, then sell the house. Which is a shame since we really love the house. So no crazy builds from me for the next year or two.Luke wrote:I hope I'm wrong, but this isn't happening.
