What is the scoring mechanism? Similar to the Raiden Fighters series at all with the medals? Excited for this one - always enjoy the Raiden series.

More like Raiden III. Destroy enemies as quick as possible for a higher multiplier, which maxes out at x5.0. 'Charge' missiles so that they earn you more points upon collision. Graze bullets for an end-of-stage bonus.

...jumped the gun. Doesn't work on slim either, I thought when it immediately read it and said "Play DVD" it was reading it...but when I hit "A" it just goes to a generic 360 screen and treats it like a CD/DVD, not a game :/ Brand frickin new out cello, doesn't work on either and it's dead mint. Tried to resurface it, figured there must be something on it somewhere that my eyes can't see...same thing, "Play DVD". bummer.

so - for those of you who have it up - it looks like Arcade mode with the difficulty adjusted to "Original" (not "Normal") is the proper scoring mode...right?

Hey, it's a shmup of the month game I actually own! But have not actually played! *jumps in*

I'm just getting used to things but hopefully I'll be able to get scores that aren't super-embarrassing before long?

I was thinking the World Ranking would be the proper scoring mode? And that it doesn't even have difficulty options? But playing in Arcade on Original should be the "true" difficulty I guess?

edit: nevermind, I think I was likely in the wrong mode as I had far more bombs to start out with than I did when I tried World Ranking mode...

Just started 3 or 4 runs. Finally back to being in SotM after a looooooooooong hiatus! Holy crap am I rusty at shmups. It's been too long.

I've been playing Arcade Mode: Original on Normal. I'll try World Ranking Mode.

I played World Ranking mode, which seems about the same difficulty as Arcade Original on Normal. Playing a shmup is like riding a bike.

Does World Ranking mode require that your 360 have an internet connection to it?

The few times I played it when I first got it, I played Arcade mode on "Original" difficulty.
