so for those of you that have picked up Akai Katana, thoughts? Is it just me or is it pretty damn hard? I haven't beaten the second level yet.

Its hard to get the hang of... but once you get how to manipulate the bullets, I think the game is pretty managable, at least up till the end. Which mode are you playing?

That was my strategic suicide to lower Dave Rank

I think RSG is pretty good at it.

I haven't played it yet...but by all counts it isn't Deathsmiles, a lot more pattern learning and a lot less forgiving. Give it lots of time dude - people rave. I'll prob pick it up today me-thinks.

Arcade Mode.

Admittedly I haven't put much time into it yet. Having picked up Akai Katana, Deathsmiles and Otomedius Excellent all at the same time was a bit overwhelming. I've been spending most of my shmup-time on Deathsmiles and have just basically "tried" the other two.

I got past the second level by pressing "start" when it asked if I wanted to continue.

Hope that helps.

I've exceeded expecatations with that goal so far. After watching the tutorial a couple of times (and figuring out the whole offense to defense thing and how the R2 trigger is actually "defense" shooting even though it is labelled as "auto fire" in the controls area), I played through the entire Novice difficulty and it wasn't too uncomfortable.

In the real arcade mode, I don't die until the end of the second level - but haven't played in a week or so with some business travel. I'll be on tonight though - and my DoDon Resurrection should be coming today!

You are in for a treat with Dodonpachi Ressurection! Such a fantastic shooter.

Tons of depth in scoring for folks who want that, and a lot of "help me get out of this crap" options for people just working towards the clear.

Man, this thread makes me miss my 360. Of course everyone gets a 360 right when mine dies :(
