I bought Tekken 8 in January - my first game of the year. And I am having a great time playing it. I have already reached Garyu rank with Shaheen.

The visuals of T8 look more realistic than SF6 that I bought last year. But I find the animation of SF better than T8.

Tekken has a special place in my heart as I had a gem of a time playing Tekken 3 on my PS back in late 90s. This is my first Tekken game after T8 and I was blown away how far gaming have evolved in two decades or so.

And there’s a large number of gamers who can afford a console but not a gaming PC, or who don’t want to play AAA games on a PC. Sony moving to also develop for PC is a recognition that there are some gamers who don’t overlap, and due to largely similar architecture porting is relatively easy. Consoles are not going to disappear because you can’t get a $550 PC that plays games like a PS5 or Xbox One.

I've always liked that consoles (and handhelds) are dedicated gaming devices, that makes them special to me. A PC is a multi-purpose machine that just happens to be able to play games, same with mobile devices A cell phone is not a gaming device. I know some people will say a console is just a PC at heart, but it's a PC that was built from the ground up to play games and to make doing that as simple, comfortable, and user friendly as possible. Even the look and branding plays into that. Nintendo consoles look like toys and Sony named their consoles PLAYstations. A console is a video game device, that is its entire reason for existing. A PC can exist in a household with zero gamers and will still be used for various things. A Switch in the same household will collect dust. If a console was a living thing with a soul, video games would be the only thing it would think about 24/7.

Microsoft exploring greater cross platform work is likely a recognition that the Xbox alone isn’t enough to secure their gaming future, and moving some titles to PS5 as well will take some of the antitrust heat off of them as they practice goodwill gestures.

I could see Microsoft eventually going the way of Sega when they realize being a software or streaming company is easier than staying in the hardware business. Xbox will become a video gaming software brand rather than a hardware brand.

TIL that Return Fire wasn't exclusive to 3DO lmao. 3DO is the only version I've played and the only version I'd ever seen until your post.

There is also a Saturn version that was cancelled at the last minute. It was completed and ready to be released, but got pulled by the publisher due to problems gettings it running on the Hitatchi HiSaturn.

Agreed 100 percent with your views.

But I think the day Microsoft turns into a developer only like Sega will not be best for gaming in general.

Competition spurs companies to offer a better value proposition in terms of price, variety and content. That's why I think going the way of Nintendo is better than following Sega's strategy esp. for us gamers. But the ultimate decision will be based on what's best for the company. I just hope MS continues to make consoles even if digital only as it gives us gamers more options.

Kind of wish I hadn't been so quick to buy that copy of Mario vs Donkey Kong I posted. I found out that starting this year, all Nintendo published games in Southeast Asia will have rating-less covers. I know games with the ESRB rating plastered on the front sell for more in the collector's market for some reason (and some people collect them exclusively), but man these covers have a nice, clean, look to them:

I'm starting to think like reprise, I need to focus more on Asian releases with my collecting

^Those aren't my pictures by the way, the first one is from someone's reddit post and the second I got off an ebay listing

I don't have either one of those nice looking releases...yet

New:

The Messenger for Switch, alternate yellow cover. It's sealed and I might keep it that way given how goddamn expensive the Switch version is. I've already played The Messenger before digitally so I don't really need to open it. I'm really temped to open it though just to swap out that ugly, yellow cover art for this awesome art that's on the opposite side of the reversible cover:

and with that, I feel I've acquired all of the pricier Switch games that I really wanted, my Switch collecting should get easier on my wallet going forward.

I also got Xeodrifter for Switch with the slipcover

EDIT: Euro version of Xeodrifter, there's an LRG North American release that I don't have. It has totally different cover art
