For my money, it's better than Xenoblade. A relatively short, 30-hour action-RPG experience. Change your attack method to manual, though. It gives a lot more control over your character.
I don't want to set up ridiculous expectations or anything, but it was one of the few games that started eliciting some of the same feelings I have about Chrono Trigger.
Exhuminator is right, though, there are some technical shortcomings, and if you don't explore thoroughly, you can miss some side chapters, so be aware of that. It's not a game that requires a guide, but it might be good to keep one on hand just to reference and make sure you're not missing character-building segments. Pretty much all of them are worthwhile. And it's definitely not a terribly difficult game, especially when you can grind so rapidly, so I guess it has that in common with Trigger as well.
