Don't feel bad about it man. I've been purging my GameCube collection onto eBay lately myself, to drum up spare cash for 3DS and Vita releases. I plan to start purging my Xbox collection after that.

I had a hard realization recently, that I very rarely replay a game once I beat it. Like, I think I've done that maybe three or four times in 33+ years of gaming. Truth be told, most of the time, once I finish a game, it goes in my memory palace and I never actually touch it again. So in that regard, what's the point of keeping all these beaten games around that I'll never play again? All I'm doing at that point is hoarding, and depriving other fellow gamers of a higher chance of getting to play them themselves.

So I said the hell with the collector/hoarder mindset and have started to seriously purge my game library. I literally own hundreds if not over a thousand console games alone. I likely own just as many PC games. So it's time to sell games to buy games. The only games I will keep that I've already beaten, are games that have deep sentimental value, or were so damned amazing I must beat them again in the future someday. (Because as we age playing a game you beat ten or twenty years ago becomes a different experience.)

Anyway just thought I'd share a recent mindset seachange. Carry on. :P

Partridge and Exhuminator -

Send me a PM and let me know what games you are considering purging from your collection. I am always looking for PS1 games, and I could probably save you some eBay fees. (Likewise, I am looking to round out my GameCube collection.)

Been playing TRAG / Hard Edge after beating Galerians. Any fans? It's pretty awesome actually and I love how it's like the RE style/engine to perfection... the camera angle changes are super smooth and seamless, as are the doors and loading. Plays really well. The combat is faster paced than most games of this style but actually works well. Has a nice Die Hard meets anime vibe to it haha. Good stuff!

My PSX fever is continuing and I thought I would give Fear Effect 2 a shot and see how it goes... well at about 10 minutes in near one save, I'm stuck. Three robots completely jack my stuff up. I looked up videos and the encounter even looks a bit randomized and different or something. I got stuck in the first game at some point too. I'm pretty good at games, and I love the classic RE style, and heck just beat Hard Edge which had crazy boss battles with that kind of control setup... but these Fear Effect games are just way too much. The weird ducking/dodging mechanic, no health packs at all (some kind of stress-like meter that fluctuates, but may never fully heal at times). I'm at nearly full health and these three robots are killing me in 2 seconds.

I may just watch a youtube run of this series or something. They look amazing, it's the RE thing going on but with tons of FMV backgrounds going on so the style is off the charts, and it looks like a dense Blade Runner kind of setting. Amazing atmosphere, but these games seem annoyingly hard.

Hate when that happens. Stylistically a game looks right up your alley, but the gameplay is too funked up to play. Any thoughts?

Video for anyone who hasn't played them and might be curious:

Might fire up Parasite Eve 2 if my patience doesn't hold.

Parasite Eve 2 is actually pretty damn good. It's rather different than Parasite Eve 1, but that's not meant in a negative way. PE2 has great graphics, exciting gameplay, some really good puzzles, and is easily one of the best survival horror style games on PS1.

If you haven't played Dino Crisis 2 yet, do that immediately. Super duper fun game and plays in the style you seem to be into right now. You can thank me later.

Well the arcadey points style of Dino Crisis 2 is kind of funky. I have to admit I've played both Dino Crisis 1-2 and enjoyed them a lot, but never beat them. No idea why.

It was weird that Dino Crisis was more truly polygon/3D though... in which it's aged way worse and doesn't have that charm that 2 does and others of this style have. All I remember about Dino Crisis 1 visually is that it was GRAY. 2 looked 100x better.

Dino Crisis 2 is sooooo much better than Dino Crisis 1. Try it again and stick with it, I bet you'll get hooked.

Fun fact, Dino Crisis 2 was directed by Shu Takumi. Yes, the guy who invented Phoenix Wright.

Oh snap, Soul of the Samurai looks pretty cool and is completely new to me. I dig Onimusha, Way of the Samurai, and RE, so looks like a winning combo. And Vampire Hunter D rocks and looks awesome too. Some obscure stuff for sure from the looks of it haha, good for me since they both look cheap.

Went ahead and started up Parasite Eve 2 and instantly don't regret dropping Fear Effect 2. Parasite Eve 2 is exactly what the mood called for. 90's Square Soft greatness. Tempting to replay FF7 as well haha, but I'm going to try to keep knocking out some unplayed stuff, and Parasite Eve 2 definitely seems amazingly promising. Looks, sounds, and plays like perfection.

I will also vouch for Soul of the Samurai. It is a hell of a lot of fun.

If you're doing the horror route and just looking for third person games, you can also check these out:
