You mean the boatman? From what I recall you have to speak to him until he runs out of original things to say to Jessica and just starts repeating himself. If takes a few trips back and forth in the boat. Somewhat tedious.
I'm in the Frontier myself. Hope to finish the game within a week's time.

You can go back in the boatBoneSnapDeez wrote:You mean the boatman? From what I recall you have to speak to him until he runs out of original things to say to Jessica and just starts repeating himself. If takes a few trips back and forth in the boat. Somewhat tedious.
Never has this game let me do that. Jessica just reminisces about the adventure there when I attempt to do so (on several occasions).
Otherwise, the guy has definitely run out of things to say. I really think I glitched it somehow and the game thinks I already got one (stupid frenchman
...just another lost soul...

I went back and forth with the boat several times. The dude flirts with Jessica a bit and then keeps repeating himself. Apparently this is what you need to do to get the bromide. Sucks that it's all so arbitrary.
I just defeated Royce. In the final stretch of the game now. Have to level up a bit before I take on the final bosses.

Dang! I'm usually able to finish the final boss around Level 50.

I'm a shameless grinder and overleveler.

I haven't been playing Lunar, but I wanted to jump in and say I am too.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I'm a shameless grinder and overleveler.
I have a few rules to grinding in most RPGs:
1) If it takes 10 or fewer battles to level a character up, fight the battles. If it takes 20 or fewer...think about leveling that character up.
2) The 5 level rule: every new dungeon, level up every character by five levels, especially at the start of the game. This will quickly turn into overkill, and you can relax after a few dungeons, but get through those critical levels.

Well the interesting thing about Lunar (PSX port at least) is that the bosses scale your levels. Only up to level 50 though. So if you grind beyond that point you can be "overpowered" compared to the bosses.
This is really only feasible for the last two (maybe last three) boss battles however.

Re: Together RPG - Lunar: The Silver Star - 11/11 --> 1/11
Been reflecting on this game for the last day or two.
Back in the 1990s I did not want to get a PlayStation. I saw the N64 as the next big thing, and assumed that Sony was another clueless electronics company trying to get in on the video game trend. I anticipated that the PSX would flop much like the 3DO or CD-I.
Then there were three games that changed my mind and caused me to realize how I had underestimated Sony. Those three were Star Ocean: The Second Story, Grandia, and Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete.
I did not own a Genesis or Sega CD as a kid, so I had never seen an "anime RPG" before. I found them quite breathtaking, for lack of a better word.
And after playing Lunar once again, I still find that the "anime-ness" is the high point of the game. The characters are adorable, the dialogue is fantastic (though the overarching story is predictable and forgettable), the voice-acting is top-notch, and the whole thing just reeks of mid-90s nostalgia.
It's too bad the battles are so dull. As cliché as it is to say this, the battle system is the one aspect of Lunar that hasn't "aged well." They're slow, repetitive, and occur far too often. Even worse, the enemy line-up may be the weakest I've ever seen in an RPG. I swear you spend the entire game fighting slimes (straight out of DQ - and I don't mean Dairy Queen), bugs, flies, and plants - all of which have multiple palette swaps. One dungeon is populated entirely by malicious shapes - you go from floor to floor fighting rectangle and diamonds.
The game is good - really good - but, much like Final Fantasy VII, I'm still vexed by the insane amount of adoration it still receives today. It's worth one playthrough, I'd say.
Now Eternal Blue I haven't played in ages, probably because there aren't nearly as many ports. I'll be revisiting this one eventually to see how it holds up.

Man I decided to pop in lunar just to be a break from ff and freedom wars(since I'm obviously not going to beat that one anytime soon with that long a sentence
). It was good up until Naal started speaking(psx)...I about burst out laughing. In the time I spent playing the gba version when I was younger that's not the voice I imagined for him at all
but man do i love these anime cutscenes
(just gotta figure out what the heck happened to my ps1 memory card when I rearranged my room....)
