I plan on playing Oath in Felghana soon-ish. Replayed Ys I Chronicles last night and will eventually get to Ys II Chronicles, and then once I do, it's on to OiF. 8)

I just realized there's an Ys III thread going on, after I started playing the PC version of it last night. Serendipity perhaps.

Well guys the first time I beat Ys III was via this version. I went back and found my HLTB review of that, this is what I said a few years back:
I started playing this out of morbid curiosity, because it's considered the worst of the Ys games by many. And I'll admit, it doesn't start out very good. Actually, it starts out brutally hard. But after about 30 minutes of scraping by and gaining a few levels, the challenge tapers off into bearable and even easy at times. Well, except for a few of the game's bosses. The designers have a habit of making you fight bosses with flying projectiles all around the room. So even if you learn the patterns of the bosses, those random projectiles will still hit you constantly. Despite a few infuriating bosses though, much of this game is nostalgic gold. There are some truly touching cinematic moments, the story despite being simplistic has some well localized dialogue, and holy mother of all things awesome the music in this game is phenomenal! That's the CD music I'm referring to though, the chiptune ones are just OK. All in all, I had fun with this even if it was far from perfect or the best Ys game. Conversing with townsfolk, exploring the caverns, buzz saw killing the monsters, and leveling up is still just as fun today as it was in 1989, if you ask me!
Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing how the PC remake stacks up. I just beat Ellefale last night, without using charged fireballs because I didn't know you could charge fireballs. I just whiffed her to death and danced around her magic attacks for ten minutes, derp. It'll be interesting to see how difficult Oath In Felghana becomes on Normal difficulty. I beat Ark Of Napishtim on Normal via PC back in 2009, and I remember parts of that game got brutal.

Progress in Oath PC: Last night I beat the Furies on top of the Elderm Mountains, made it to the hermit's cabin.

I'm enjoying this remake for sure, so far it's solid 8/10 territory for me. I really wish there was a button to call up a map though. Some of the cavernous areas become so spread out that I know I'm missing Bracelet upgrades... but I soldier on regardless. As a mindless ARPG button masher this is a nice way to zone out with music blasting probably a bit too loud late at night.

You reeeeeally don't wanna miss the bracelet upgrades. In fact, I believe certain parts may be impassable without the correct upgraded bracelets.

As far as items go, the Ys games are more like Zelda than, say, Final Fantasy. You essentially need to find every treasure chest except for those that contain money or health upgrades or whatever.

I'm moving slowly through this one. Took a few days off to do some work on my house. Just entering Valestein Castle.

Hmm. In that case when I reach the point where I need them, I'll warp back and find them. By then I'll be so overleveled for the respective areas it should be a breeze running through.

In the Clock Tower now! Level is 40-ish. Hope to have this finished midweek.

Defeated all three Valestein Castle bosses on the first try... of course I have played this game before. 8)

I'm also about to enter the Clock Tower.

Edit: Let me add that I finished the castle, and am about to head to Genos Island.

Finished The Oath in Felghana! Such a great game. Final save (clear data) was 11:34. Much faster than my previous playthrough. Adol was level 51 at the final boss. I had every item, all weapons/armor maxed out, and a complete log of enemies and NPCs.

Gonna have to try out the PC version someday.

I SHOULD be able to finish Oath today. Spent a bit of time last evening going in and out of the final area, fighting monsters and gaining a couple of levels.
