DREAMCAST VGA QUESTIONS! come here for everything VGA w/ DC.
Re: DREAMCAST VGA QUESTIONS! come here for everything VGA w/ DC.
Quick question about the VGA box (not cable). If I use the vga for tv can I use the audio left/right (white/red) for sound instead of needing a 3.5mm adapter?

Unfortunately, no.
You can only use the RCA outputs in "TV Mode", not VGA mode.

Actually, I use the red/white audio jacks in VGA mode and it works fine. DC is hooked up to my monitor via the VGA box and it's in PC mode, I have the red/white cables connected from the box to a small adapter that came with my 5.1 speakers, and it works fine for me.

vga adapter problems
Hey all,
I have been using a racketboy VGA adapter to connect my dreamcast to my ACER AL2216w monitor for a little under a year now. However, yesterday when I changed the source to analog on the monitor it just kicks me back to the digital source which is being used by the computer. If I hook the computer up with the same vga cable i use for the dreamcast the PC recognizes the signal fine. The dreamcast works on my HDTV, but I get lag... therefore it is unplayable.
does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks,
adam

Re: DREAMCAST VGA QUESTIONS! come here for everything VGA w/ DC.
Hi everyone, I just purchased VGA Box, and I need some help.
I did not buy it from RacketBoy, so please do not think he sent me potentially faulty equipment. I ended up getting it from ebay.
Anyway, my VGA Box's input into the Dreamcast apparently came with some pins that were bent too far down on the right hand side (when holding the curved side up). When plugging in the VGA cable, the color Green was entirely absent. The screen had a severe red tint. I tested it on 2 monitors with the same result. I then used a thumbtack to bend up those two pins, hoping it would make contact and the green colors would show up. This worked on the first monitor, but it seemed that the menu screen had a flickering problem in some spots. It seemed almost like the 480p was stretched too far over this 22" monitor.
The second monitor, which is actually an LCD Tv with a VGA, did not have this flickering. However, whenever the screen is white, such as during the Dreamcast bootup and the SEGA logo, there is a moving, red, horizontal line that moves up the screen, goes all of the way up and starts at the bottom again. It would be fine if that was the only place I noticed it, but it also happens whenever I play NHL 2k2, which is extremely distracting and annoying. I love hockey games, so this a major problem. I constantly see this red line moving on the ice and slicing through the players and such. Is this normal? Does it sound like a bad cable that I should return, or is this a common result from using a higher resolution Tv/monitor vs. the original CRT's back when the Dreamcast was released? The red line isn't always noticeable- just during parts with a lot of white. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kevin

Ditto.
Re: DREAMCAST VGA QUESTIONS! come here for everything VGA w/ DC.
I wondered if anyone has any tips on getting lightgun games to work with a vga box. I have a racketboy supplied vga box. I have tried with 2 monitors using a european dreamcast and although they partially work(hotd2 works but aiming is off) it isnt perfect.
I am not able to calibrate the gun on either screen or game. And although on confidential mission the first screen works, as soon as the fat guy your chasing runs around the corner shouting " you'll never get this disk" the gun dosent work at all.
Lke I said I tried on 2 monitors. The one I use for my P.C. and on a naomi cabinet (max res. 640x480). I get the same results with both.
Any ideas?

So, what monitors is everyone using for their Dreamcasts?
