I haven't played enough of NV to make a decision on it. Had to sell it to buy something, never got a chance.
You're not missing out on much really. The original Fallout games were much better and other games this gen did the same thing better. Play S.T.A.L.K.E.R if you want an open world wasteland with mutants, and the whole 1st person view (non dungeon crawler) RPG thing has been done much better, even by some current gen games.
New Vegas is a lot better than 3 though, so if you're looking to play a modern Fallout game, try that one. If you're looking for a post-apocalyptic RPG, keep in mind that Wasteland 2 will be released later on in 2013.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I bought Fallout 3 with full expectations of loving it. It's made my Bethesda, which make the Elder Scrolls games (my favorite game series ever), and it's a huge-open world single-player game, which I usually adore.

But just like you said, everything looks washed out, bland, and similar. It was boring to me walking around and exploring things. And I wasn't impressed with the VATs systems.

Maybe I just wasn't in the right mindset or something. It's worth checking out again, I guess, since it's pretty cheap to get now.

Y'all need to play the PC version. Slap just a couple mods on there such as this one called Fellout:

And all those problems would be alleviated. :D

Agree 100%. Fallout 3 just never did anything for me. I never played very far into it, but if a game can't even hook me a little bit at the start then I just move on.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Meh, it's not really the graphics that's the problem for me. I don't really care for post-apocalyptic environments.

I love post apocalyptic environments, so I don't mind the look of Fallout at all, in fact I like it.

This quite honestly. I think it helps convey the look of an irradiated planet. Plus when you consider the setting, "More energy was released in the first moments of the Great War than all of the previous human conflicts in the history of the world combined," I could see the sky possibly having a green tint. I like the color palette that was chosen, and love that the setting is in one of my favorite cities in the world.

Also, I hated the Metros in Fallout 3. Blegh.

I probably would have got it on PC, if I had a PC that could run it.

The gameplay inside them aside, I found the metro sections kinda cool - Bethesda is based in Bethesda, MD, which is right next to DC. In turn, a lot of the National Mall areas in that game, and the metro, are fairly accurate to their real life locations.
