Re: Erik Twice Reviews - Ignorance is not criticism

Post by Erik_Twice »

Sorry, I meant "not knowledgeable". Obviously, if you know what you are talking about then sharing is a good idea, more knowledge for everyone!

I don't see we are going to see eye to eye on this, mainly because the discussion are centered around an article whose interpretation is subject to much debate. I mean, obviously Mr Poole doesn't think all opinions are equal because that would be very paradoxical. But he strafes that area enough to make it muddy.

So yeah. At least we had a nice debate

Do you remember my postst when I played Toe Jam & Earl some time ago and found it dissapointing? Now it's a dissapointing review you can hate!

Toe Jam & Earl - C

I would have liked to make it more informative instead of presuming everyone kind of knows what the game is, but I think it's better for me to stick to a time table instead of pushing back articles until they are "perfect".

Re: Erik Twice Reviews - Dissapointed with Toe Jam & Earl!

I love Toejam and Earl... but I can't really disagree with your complaints. The game is all about walking, and hoping you don't get screwed by your items

I think its the lack of split-screen co-op roguelikes that has me enjoying Toejam so much. Its a very flawed game, but it was a hard experience to match back in the day. I remember flipping out over being able to be so far away from the other player.

I guess its a mix of nostalgia and lack of a better alternative (and great music) that has me still loving TJ.

Good review :)

You know, the thing is that if the enemies were a bit more aggressive, a bit faster and the game were a bit harder, it would probably be significantly better because each enemy is indeed programmed in an interesting way, it's simply rendered pointless by walking.

There are no other cooperative roguelikes, are there? Can't think of any at the moment, it's truly something that we need.

Glad you liked the review more than I did

Does anyone know if the leaked Dreamcast sequel fixed any of these problems?

I agree. That's really what makes TJ&E special to me. Playing it with a friend in the right mindset is a blast. Playing it by yourself is dreadful though.

The Roguelike genre has been gaining popularity in recent years especially among indie games so maybe we'll see more multiplayer ones like this in the future.

TJ&E is an interesting concept... a roguelike that's not an RPG. But the execution isn't perfect. The game is mediocre at best I think. One of those "classic" titles that I have no desire to actually own.

Re: Erik Twice Reviews - Netrunner is still king

Post by Erik_Twice »

Some time ago I wrote a Netrunner article and people asked me to do more so this week I decided to write about it instead of a review instead. It's still hard work but it should allow me more time to write a better review next week. So this week won't be too interesting to you guys.

I'll probaby cover Martin Wallace's Automobile, a very good if not very replayable game about running a car company next and I'll try to make the blog a little bit prettier as well. :)

Re: Erik Twice Reviews - Thief II: The Metal Age - AAA

Post by Erik_Twice »

I'm back and I really, really enjoyed Thief II: The Metal Age despite its many flaws. If you like games full of tension in which each step matters, you'll love this game. It doesn't matter if you don't normally like the genre, I think it has an incredibly wide appeal.

Re: Erik Twice Reviews - Review Scores

Post by Erik_Twice »

I've decided to tackle the controversy and talk about review scores! Why do I use them? What do I seek with them?
