Yeah, that makes sense. My memory is a little bad (give me a break this is 25 years ago at this point), but I think the local rental hut near me just called em games, I could be wrong though.

It's funny looking back on this gen, really thinking about it lately now that I have a good gaming PC for the future where I'll be sticking for awhile now.

Two things, if all my friends and their dog were not on XBL, and I liked the PS controller for FPS's, I probably would have been entirely fine with a PS3 only this entire gen. And honestly I don't even like most of Sony's exclusives like Uncharted or God of War, etc, but I can say the same for the Xbox outside of being a sucker for the Halo campaigns.

XBL has never been worth it a damn bit in my eyes, but I renew it every once and awhile... over the last couple of years that's resorted to maybe having a 1-3 week burst on some specific game with friends, then we all move on and that's it. Total waste to me. So I tend to go months on end sometimes after its expired and don't give a crap to renew it unless I'm pressured. Then I suffer for not being a Gold member, losing access to new demo's and half the shit all over the marketplace or whatever, I don't even think I can access Amazon streaming without it. So I have to pay a service (XBL) to use a service (Amazon) under a main service (internet)... wtf?

PS3 can play BD's, online is free, trophies are less annoyingly intrusive than achievements, it's got PSX/PS2 classics (oh wait there's the Xbox Classics ... yeah what a killer lineup there, right?), every AAA game or big PSN/XBL release that can you find on everything else, and I love that they don't downgrade the main menu layout 10 times a year and try to shove non-gaming bologna down my throat left and right with the ads and all.

Also I never had to buy a second PS3.

The Move sucked and so did the Kinect, but Sony just kind of let it die instantly or moved on, when MS has had an agenda to continually push that forward. Sony's approach now seems to be as others have said, let us the consumers and fans decide where things head and how it all evolves, we'll guide it and they'll support us, not the other way around. I'm loving the attitude they're having lately myself about everything. The controller looks a bit more ideal to me for FPS's this time around and I'm sure they'll improve bits of their online (microphone support wasn't very good on the PS3). If online is still free, yeah that could just top it all off for me. I'm still disappointed PSN stuff won't transfer over, but the PS3 seems like a great piece of hardware to leave out and use for years to come regardless, so no biggie I guess.

Nintendo gets you with their onslaught of IP's, so I'm sure I'll buy a Wii U someday for them. But yeah, now that I'm equipped with a good gaming PC and I play less and less stuff online with friends thesedays, I could easily see myself only going with one main console for awhile this next gen, and the PS4 is sounding damn sexy so far.

I'm hoping in MS's best interest, that these rumors are false.. While they are profitable atm, Apple and Google are starting to make them bleed and they can't really afford a fucked up Console this Gen.. Not looking good, but I'll believe all this when the reveal is out.. They have to realize that no one is going to buy it if these rumors are true..

I'm glad they finally came to their senses, but if they try and say they always planned it this way, they're a bunch of liars. They saw the writing on the wall and backed out, simple as that. I applaud them for actually listening to their potential customers. The "no used games" problem is still there, though. If the technology to do that is built in and could be activated with something as simple as a firmware update, then it would be foolish to believe they won't do it no matter what they say.

More likely the capability to do it is built in, and is opt-in for the publisher. Just like region locking is on the PSP, Vita, and PS3 (and Blu-ray in general for that matter). Almost no PS3 games actually utilize it, but technically the system supports it (as Persona 4 Arena demonstrated).

I'd hazard a guess and say that they were toying with the idea, so they leaked a rumor in order to gauge feedback. It's pretty sensible, actually.

I only wish they and Sony would go through with it. They have the gun, just pull the trigger already!

I really don't see them "flipping a switch" after the system is already out. It's flat out PR suicide.

Closest thing I could see even being a possibility is having an option for individual publishers to block used games for individual releases. Similar to the Ps3 with the publisher opt-in region lock thing.

It would be pretty interesting I admit.

I kinda enjoy video games though so I wouldn't want that to happen.

There are enough video games in existence right now to last me a lifetime. Who needs something new?

Thank god. I'm glad that came out because it's HIGHLY, HIGHLY, unlikely that there was ever any truth to the rumor of it being online only. It was pure FUD from day one, and I'm going to maintain that till there's real proof otherwise. If it weren't for all the very MS haters out there I doubt this dumb rumor would've gotten so much steam.
