If you don't agree with their practices, don't shop there. Simple enough.

Wait... they are seriously selling it for $90?

I love how it's branded as "vintage" on the website. To be fair though, this will bring the price of the game down in the used market as well, which is a good thing. I'm glad I sold when I did.

I'm not sure how it is still an argument, they stashed away a bunch of new (and likely good shape used) copies and waited.
thank you.

i mean no no no conspiracy evil hated capitalist pigs !111one!!1
So hoarding copies of a limited print game is some how better than having a conspiracy secret print run? I think it's much, much worse. If GameStop was hoarding copies then they were a major factor in the whole supply/demand thing that drove the price of used copies up in the first place. That's a real sleazy thing to do. Maybe not as bad as farmers pouring out milk, but it's the same kind of sleaze.

But no wait, fuck it, they're GameStop. Free pass for no matter how they all of a sudden have a ton of copies in stock. And Metroid Prime, too. Not the least bit curious. I'll just dumpster dive behind the store to collect all the game manuals they threw out and call it a day. :D

I'm not saying one is better than the other (I don't think he is either). But the whole argument and conspiracy talk is just goofy, it is pretty obvious what they did and yeah it is crap as well.

yeah. it's good for business but bad for cost-conscious consumers. but it's not a mysterious conspiracy or all that surprising. I'm sure if they don't sell at the asking price, they'll reduce it.

Isn't it possible that GS never put out all their stock or, instead, had all the copies that were traded in since release sent back to HQ for cleaning/polishing and then shipped back to the stores when the market was right? That seems a more likely scenario. When Rez was reprinted, they were open about it. If Xenobalde were the same scenario, why wouldn't they be open about that now?
Your assuming that they were smart and cocky enough to know their game was going to be so great that withholding "X" amount of copies would come in handy later? Idk what fairy tale world your living in. Why would they be open? If their open they can only sell the game for $50 but If the secretly get reprints, unwrap them and stick em' on a shelf they can charge $40 more. Although I do believe a small portion is trade-in's and HQ copies. Also, like I said it's a conspiracy theory.
I'm pretty sure GS can sell new or used games for whatever price they like. I'm also pretty sure that they knew from the start that the game was made in limited quantities, so storing their trade in copies (which they've been asking for/promoting for months) and/or holding some unwrapped stock in reserve is smart.
It is strange that there are at least eight stores showing in stock in my area. DS answer concerning the refurbish center is the most plausible, I doubt there was a reprint or any "conspiracy" hoarding.

@ oxymoron - The $89.99 price is for used not new. Any new copies did get retagged as used, but most of the new copies were bought out when the price was at $49.99. Used copies back then were going for $40.49 so most too were snatched up, if not by customers then the employees. I'm leaning more towards Gamestop offering a higher Tradein value compared to most of the tradeins compiled with not too smart customers trading in their Wii with all games to move up to the WiiU.

Gamestop even sent an EMail out trying to entice Xenoblade and Metroid Trilogy registered owners to trade in.

How many missed out towards the end of the initial cycle buying this game?

You know recently i also saw a lot of Dokapon Kingdom and Little Kings Story at a lot of Gamestops but it was hard to find before. They could have redistributed them but they looked almost untouched and didnt have any price stickers over an old one. Every single one I saw complete even with ad mailers. But if these were old stock they had they all would have had a previous stickers on them because the prices have changed. Even if old stickers were pulled off you can tell. Plus where house stickers vary from stickers printed in store. Check xenoblade and metroid in the next gamestop you go in.

Great point! The refurbish center could have used new white cases, a check of the Wii logo inside might prove that. Metroid Tin case of course could not be replaced. Many Wii games do not have the Wii logo inside the case, but I think Nintendo 1st party games all do. In addition, the extra Brochures and Manual and if pristine could be another example. I'm still leaning towards the $48.00 trade in offer Gamestop did some months back.

A good indicator of Refurbish Center issue is the R sticker on the back.

I find it humorous that people are arguing that Gamestop selling used copies for $90 is shady but not complaining about people on ebay selling them for $100+. It's simple supply and demand, Gamestop realized how much people were paying for them online so they put out ads that they were giving a bonus trade in money for the game. Unsuspecting kids and moms saw the ad in stores and not knowing what they could get for them on ebay simply started trading them in, there is no conspiracy here folks.
