Probably the best strategy, Ja. Though, Ketsui would have been a fun choice.

I think MAME is great, and those who don't want to use it are probably going to miss out. I sure as hell picked 3 games that were never ported. I'm hoping you guys at least give em a shot. There are a lot of really solid shmups out there that have no port. MAME is godly in this aspect, it runs Esp RaDe, Feveron, Batrider, Bakraid, every NMK game, every Toaplan game (which I consider to have never been ported, aside Bats), Viper Phase 1, the Neo Geo library, Cyvern, Air Gallet, blah blah blah,

I think its sad that some people here that claim to love shmups are perfectly fine with never playing these games, since they can't purchase them/hold them. Its also unfortunate that it could mean us misisng out on some great games, because a few people don't want to play them in a certain way.

If anyone is having troubles with MAME, please feel free to ask and I'll point you in the right direction. I just use the latest MAME build, and if its a ROM issue I can show you right where I got mine. If it says "missing 554354.cat" or whatever, just google that+download, unzip your rom folder, drop that sucker in, re-zip it, and voila, fixed.

If someone picks "Best shmup", I would love for them to then post about the series. I don't think I've ever seen someone claim it as their number 1 favorite shmup.

I'm not really sure what counts as a cute em up. Muchi Muchi Pork seems like it could qualify, but I don't get a cute em up feel from it. It seems more pervy and wacky than cute.

I think it's stuff that just uses cutesy charcters, like TSS or Parodius and so forth.

Damn, now I think I should have made TSS one of my picks.

Eh... I love TSS, but the 1p mode gets a bit dull. Not terrible, but there are a lot of shmups that fair better for 1p.

I actually really liked your picks, I'd be happy to see any of them win (Although I'm crossing my fingers for some "Get your finger on the trigger, Rookie!" )

TSS would be best if we could play each other via online multiplayer.

"Just a couple more shots!"

Yeah, I kinda pigeonholed myself. When it came time to choose from my own picks, it took me forever. I just like all of these so much. I think I chose Raiden 4 just because I need a reason to delve into it. Plus it's the only Seibu title in the whole list. Madness.

I watched videos on all of the stuff you chose, and they all looked cool; and very frantic. I had a hard time, but Rapid Hero seemed to jump out at me most.
