Sandy
Re: Sandy
my family and i made it through safe. We're between the cities of Lancaster and Reading PA and only took on a tiny bit of water, not much really. No damages thankfully, no school for the daughter, no work for mommy and daddy for two days and managed to get in some well needed sleep and a wee bit o' gaming too. Hope our fellow racketeers and their families are safe too.
Looking at the news with pictures and videos of the damages along the shore points is very hard to see since i've vacationed from Wildood to Seaside Heights to Point Pleasant to Asbury Park and can recognize places where i've walked, ate at, rides ridden on. It really is heart-breaking and hope that everyone did evacuate along the coast.
The wife was set to go shopping with some friends this weekend in NYC, but that may not happen with a major flooding taking place there too. Power outages, subways flooded, hazardous and contaminated standing water are all concerns. It's hard to take in and process the sheer amount of damage over the past few days.

Re: Sandy
My family and I used to go to Seaside Heights every year when I was a kid. I haven't been there in years, was really sad to see the place got completely wrecked. The pictures were straight up gruesome.
Re: Sandy
Today was my first day out since Friday (I've been sick). I took the back roads to work, my usual route, and didn't notice anything was amiss until I reached the main road. The traffic lights were out all up and down the main road, and I guess the entire town was without power. I got to work, and they had no power. Just a backup generator powering a few lights and power outlets.
Now for those that don't know, one of my two current jobs is in a super market (don't worry, my other job is much cooler
). No, I'm not a cashier or stock boy, I work in produce. Some of yous might be sick if you knew how much food gets thrown out regardless, but because of the power outage, TONS of food was being thrown out. Millions of retail dollars. I'm pretty sure they're insured for it, but it felt like a sin throwing all that food out. I know it's no body's fault, and it's not like spoiled food belongs any where but the garbage anyway, but I still felt bad throwing it all away. I don't know.
Power came back on half way through my shift. I saw my friend's mom in the store, who lives in that town, who was still without power. When I left work, I took my normal route home (which is a different route than I take going to work). Looks like they restored the major traffic lights, but many of them are still out. On a back road going to my house, the road was closed off because of downed trees, I had to take an alternate route.
I also learned that parts of my own town are without power, so I guess I'm just extremely lucky that I never lost mine. And that I didn't have much damage to deal with.

I'm no longer in NJ, but I always like to read the news from there, thanks! I just saw more of the pictures from SH -- looks like Casino Pier got worked, big time. Never have I seen such damage from there.

I was for much of the month of October over on TR-Shmup of the month.
I'm in west central Florida, north of Tampa. Well removed from all the crazy stuff going on in NJ. Hoping SH can rebuild somewhat, and it looks like the arcades made it through thanks to those heavy shutters.

But Frankenstorm Sandy still managed to totally knock down/uproot three large trees! Pretty intense stuff!
Not too long after posting this, I ended up losing power. It's back on today, which is a relief. I'm glad I stocked way up on water and had plenty of ice in the freezer before things got bad.
