8 hrs in on my third game... I'm doing so much better. I got a lot of satellites up this time. I had a mission on an alien ship that I think was one of the most exciting things I've experienced in this game. And honestly, I don't just think Enemy Unknown is one of my favorite games this gen - I think it's one of my favorite games of all time. It's crazy when a sequel is able to render its predecessors basically unnecessarily. As a fan of the series going back to Terror From The Deep, I can honestly say this game is my favorite of the series big time. I genuinely think Enemy Unknown is a milestone of the genre. It's just so perfectly executed.

My squad is kicking ass, though sadly Fastbilly kicked the can recently. She had been a real cornerstone for quite a while, and she will be missed.

I played this A LOT over the weekend. I've got a lot of satellite coverage now, but I'm on a losing-streak where I've lost all my really good squad members. Every mission I'm doing now seems to be "Very Difficult" since there's a lot of panic rising, yet I'm sending out all these new recruits and they're just getting creamed. I'm not sure if new weapons would help enough or if I'm going to have to start another playthrough soon.

I had been planning to wait to play this again until Enemy Within released, but I fired it up over the weekend. Doing well so far. I haven't lost any countries yet due to panic, but a few are on the brink.

I have a colonel and several majors and have lost 2 so far. 1 on the first mission and another when I stumbled across a flying disc and it wasted a wounded Heavy Sgt.

I just got the beam/plasms weapons and carapace armor. I dread the likely upcoming all Muton battle where you open a door and 6 are inside and lob grenades at the crew.

Muton's are dicks.

I've definitely been really focusing my funds on launching satellites and building facilities so I have such crap weapons. That's def a part of why I'm now floundering while I started off so strong.

Hmm.

Do I start another game, or just keep at it?

Since Enemy Within is late November, it'll end up on my Xmas list as I try not to buy myself any games right before the holidays.

Yeah I balance satellites and upgrades. Dont be afraid to use the grey market.

Final Fantasy Tactics is ok. Still much prefer Tactics Ogre.

LOL. I know what FFT is. I love it. I just have never heard of "1.3" - is that an official release or just some kind of mod?

The original is still one of the best in the genre so it's worth a try

Some of the best strategy games of all time. Jagged Alliance 2 is a SRPG so it's more battle centric, while Master of Orion and Alpha Centauri are more traditional 4X(*) turn based strategy, both with a scifi theme. So if you like the tactic battles of Xcom, Jagged Alliance 2 is great (best in the genre according to many strategy fans, usually tied up with the original Xcom in polls). But if you like the scifi theme and resource management and large scale strategy of Xcom, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares are great

What is Final Fantasy Tactics 1.3?
FFT 1.3 is a modification of Final Fantasy Tactics made by Archael. It greatly increases the difficulty of the game and re-balances it by tweaking items, skills, jobs, and giving the enemies the player faces more options, which unlocks the AI's true potential. It is a very different experience from the original game. All the changes that 1.3 makes to the game can be found in this website. It is based on the original FFT 1.1 and 1.2 patches by Philsov.
Counting every minor change, FFT 1.3 contains 404,421 individual differences from the original game.
An improved and harder version of FFT :)
