This was the first game i bought for the GBA. Pretty cool and i got to the half of it. I still have the game save so i pick up again this weekend.
Hint: there is a point someehwre around level 2 or 3 you can rack up as much lives as you want in minutes. Hard to describe from memory but i could put up a video of it.

Playing the SNES version here, and could only get to stage 1-3

Fun game, though.

I played again today and now that I know the abilities of toad, he is tied with mario as my favorite character for this game.
I managed to complete the game this time around. However, I inadvertenly stumbled across a warp in world 5, so I will play again to see all the levels.
In my opinion, super mario bros 2 is a good game, but it really isn't as good as super mario bros 1 and 3. I believe my two biggest gripes against the game is the way we kill the ennemies and the fact the game seems to be less platforming-oriented than the other two. On the other hand, I find the graphics to be great (better than smb3) and I like the way some of the levels are designed. Level 7-1 stumped me for a while because I had no idea what to do at a certain point.

Here it is. It's the very beginning of the game at stage 1-1

A similar exploit is in World 3-3. When you go inside early in the level, first there are two purple guys running at you - kill them with the nearest thing (turtle shell). Then go to the left and pull up a giant "POW" block, go right (walking - you want the turtle shell to have disappeared before you get to the end) until you see a mass of enemies. Throw the POW and run left - you'll get several lives in one shot.
Exit the room and go back - PLENTY OF LIVES FAST.

I really don't like when Nintendo adds a scoring system to a game that initially did not have one. It's pretty much useless when you can replay levels or just exploit the scores indefinitely.
I never understood why they had score in SMB3, either. It's as though they just add it for the sake of adding it. They still have it in NSMB, and it's just as pointless there. It's like 1UPs in the recent games, there is no need for them, but they add them just because it's a Mario game.

I think i can remember that, Even better! but this one is much simpler and is at the beginnig.
On the scoring: I agree it's totally pointless in this game because no time limit.

It seems the GBA version changed more things I would have thought. There are no ennemies at that place in the NES version and there are no huge vegetables/ennemies. The GBA version actually looks more fun to me just because of this variety in size.
Also, I notice the beginning of 1-1 is way different :
GBA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_gmxAMUmV4Does someone know if there are other sections where the two games have major differences?
EDIT : Watching the GBA video with sound, I agree with what have been said earlier in this thread. The voices were unnecessary.
EDIT 2 : Just to clarify, by major differences I mean in the level design, like it is the case with 1-1. I don't want people to tell me all the places where there are new ennemies/vegetables/coins/potions...

Played this on the SNES Super Mario All-Stars compilation the other night.
Almost felt like I was sleepwalking through it... I've beaten this soooooooo many times.
Is there any reason to play as any character besides the princess?
