Man, my shelves look like crap!
I just bought these, but I'm about to see if I can find something that looks better. I went cheap, which was a stupid choice. I specifically bought these because the color matched the rest of my living room furniture in the picture, but it looks nothing like the friggin' picture.
Awesome Sega collection noise! Mine's starting to get there.

I'm kind of an anal person when it comes to organizing but that desk in front of that shelf really really bugs me since you would have to move the desk to get to the games there.
I'm also slightly bothered by the fact that noise is short but has put most of his games out of his reach. Why not just put them lower dude?

I resent that.
Looking at the picture, I'm pretty sure I'm about the same height if not shorter, and organize my games from top to bottom as well. It just looks better in my opinion.Have to keep the valuables out of my kid's hands.
I do keep my most used games (Dreamcast) in the middle though.

I'm 5'5''... I can reach those games fine. It's just some of those boxed accessories I need a boost for.

That shelving is awesome. It looks better than a Library, almost Museum like. He obviously has a large office area and probably a large house.
To me, that shelving belongs in an office/study setting. Can you imagine that in your living room or dining room? It would look just as ridiculous as a cluttered collection and bad displays in my opinion.
You have to match the setting. Basic interior design principles apply no matter what you have in your house.
I think anyone who walked into or saw that guys office would be impressed!

I have a room in my house dedicated to media storage and media use/play. I rarely take most people who visit the house in here becasue we tend to socialize over drinks/sports/food in the family room or living room instead of having a more intense "media experience" by playing a game, listening to music, or watching a movie in this room. That said, it is a great place to hang out with my wife and son, a nice place to play games with those who are interested, and a nice out-of-the way room to put the hobby into spatial perspective. It is really only designed to be comfortable for about 4-5 people at maximum, though.
More than a few forum members have been in that room, so maybe they can chime in as to whether or not it is "adult appropriate" or not

The cluttered picture carries that stigma because it's a messy room, not necessarily the contents of it (although they don't help) or even the room its in. It doesn't matter if it were books, movies, or music scattered and stacked all over. It looks bad. It makes you look like you don't care about cleaning up or presenting it. I'm not saying you need to drop a few thousand dollars to install giant oak bookcases in your gaming room. But keep your stuff somewhat together and organized.
True, nevertheless, its not always based on a messy/cluttered room....sometimes its based on just layout choices.
Here are some examples:

Why?
The layout of having posters on the wall, empty boxes of video game consoles on display, Figurines in the corner or on the shelves, etc. There are people with Kiosks and arcade machines in their bedrooms.....they forget what a bedroom is for.
That is the main problem......not having a lot of video games.......but how it is displayed.
And when many get their own house or apartment......they go crazy and try to display their collection as much as possible and forget that other people will come in with their own opinion of it.
