Kotaku published a really nice article on the sine wave patterns of Medusa heads. It may sound boring and nerdy, but it's......boring and nerdy.
I have never seen so many words say so little.

No, seriously the article can be summed up in two lines
1) The sine wave is beautiful and complex but not very much so
2) And that's why it's fun

What's the verdict on the new games?? (I'm happy there's two new games to look forward to, as opposed to just one.)

Lords of Shadow 2 looks....Lords of Shadowy. Well, at least from the trailer. But, OH MAN, what a trailer! If you wanted to get me excited for the sequel, THAT was a damn good way to do so! (Spoiler alert: You might want to make sure you finish the first LoS game before viewing.)

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, (gee, since when did Capcom start naming Vania games?) however, looks freakin' amazing! Lords of Shadow graphics with 2D Metroidvania gameplay. It should be the game to play for all of the Lords of Shadows critics out there. Plus, we can now officially see where Gabriel stands on the Belmont heirarchy, as it's been officially stated that Gabriel is the father of Trevor. I know I already have a few apprehensions about that fact, but for the time being, I'll put them aside until I can get my hands on this game!
Trailer
Again, spoilers for those who haven't beaten LoS... Beware.
Heh, I guess it's time I get the first LoS... I haven't yet.

@Rurouni_Fencer I started a thread for LoS2 here, if you're interested in a don't-worry-about-spoilers conversation about the meaning in that trailer.

Also totally agree with how awesome Mirror of Fate looks.

Zig, I totally dug LoS. I'm convinced it's because I got where they were coming from with how they did it. If you're struggling with it at first, give it a little bit of time to grow on you. In my opinion, the ending of LoS is one of the best ever.

I've heard some concerning things about Mirror of Fate, like how many of the enemies take way too long to kill (so more in the style of Lords of Shadow's combat system).

Dude, have you played Blade of Darkness? Rebel Act Studios went on to become Mercury Steam. The combat is second to none... and brutal. I keep telling myself I'm going to write a review, but I can't beat the damn thing.

No I haven't, but I watched a vid and I'm intrigued. Where do I get it? Checked Steam and GOG and nada.

This seems like a fantastic deal to me. Could also make an offer on this one. I grabbed the big-box version for about $15-20 a few months back. It used to be up on Codemasters' site, but I fear it's long gone now.

We've done Mega Man so Which Flavor of Castlevania?

Post by TheRev »

We did Mega Man now on to another childhood favorite... Castlevania. Where pretty much every game is a spin off rather than a sequel but there are 3 distinct play styles in the series. The Linear play style which I think was perfected in III, IV, and Che No Rondo.
Then you have the 3d Play style from the N64 games, a few PS2 games and what I think is
an abomination in Lord of Shadows. Then Finally there's the non Linear Metroidvania style that's been beaten to death then beaten some more.

I doubt we'll get many votes for 3d. For me outside SOTN which is the first and best of that style of Castlevania. I'm of course going with the classic Linear style. Those games were balls Hard and Chi No Rondo is the only one I've ever beaten. III is a great example of cruel but fair game design and the challenge stacks up over time. IV I always felt was too easy until near the end.

Richter is my favorite Belmont too.

But enough of my talk HAVE AT YOU!
