Check out this video if you're a fan of the 'Ring. It's a comparison between the game and the real thing. Same driver, same car, same track. Don't know if it's the same modifications, tires, etc.

Hey guys, keep those photoshots coming. I love seeing player's screenshots of their cars because I think this game just looks downright amazing. All the pictures posted in this thread are awesome, especially the ones in action.
I'm getting this game a little later, but for now I love seeing what you guys can put out.

I don't agree with all of the points Niode's made, but they're very relevant. I really don't want to get into the console war shit, but I am going to to list some things that I see as facts. If someone can prove me wrong go for it. Then I'm going to ramble on about GT5 (probably with poor grammar) for a bit, and hope that I don't lose the point I'm trying to make. I swear this is all relevant, but I can't promise that it's worth readingEvilRyu2099 wrote:That's basically all you do is troll in this thread...Niode wrote:d'aww you guys, you make me smile sometimes. -Sony went from being in 1st by a large margin 2 gens in a row to being last. It's true they're starting to gain now , but they've still lost a huge amount of consumers mindshare. This isn't totally because Nintendo and Microsoft had such good showings this gen, it's also because Sony screwed up big time.
-Sony has repeatedly made RIDICULOUS statements about their consoles abilities and hasn't delivered. Some of this is normal marketing bs, everyone does that, not like Sony though. I'm still waiting for my PS3 with dual 1080p hdmi out, a built in router, and a online experience that's "like jacking into the matrix". And the motivation to work extra hard so I can afford the pleasure of owning a PS3.
-The Cell is a very powerful processor, but it's strengths largely aren't gaming related. In fact it was never designed to be great for games. Its a highly scalable architecture that can be used for serious processing such as medical simulations, or in small stuff like tv's. The PS3 gave them enough production volume to make such a powerful processor fairly affordable. Oh and Sony stopped selling the model of PS3 that could be used for number crunching, wtf guys?
(I really don't want to hear any statistics or other crap about the Cell vs whatever's in the 360 unless you're a developer with intimate working knowledge of both systems, it's just plain not that simple guys.)
Moving on, I think GT5 creates a rather interesting scenario. Besides being one of the most anticipated PS3 titles beside MGS, to my knowledge GT5 is one of the only games announced before the PS3s release that hadn't been released yet. Understandably a lot of anticipation built up around the game, Sony was gloating about how the PS3 will pick you up from work, cook you dinner, and then tuck you in at night after a good bj, when it isn't busy being the most mind blowing video game machine ever imagined. And GT is a prestige series, it looks good, is technically impressive, and makes a lot of money. It's quite the feather in Sony's hat. So you've got Sony making crazy claims combined with high expectations because of the series' pedigree, and this is YEARS before the game will even be out for sale. After 6 years of development and numerous delays there's simply no way that GT5 could live up to its own hype.
Now while Sony is inflating expectations to astronomical levels that they simply can't deliver on and Gran Turismo is all wrapped up in it, what's happening at Polyphony Digital? Well this is obviously speculation, but I don't think any of it is unreasonable whatsoever. Sony knows for a fact that GT5 is going to make them fucktons of money basically no matter what, they're also aware that the expectations for the game are extremely high. So they write PD a blank check and let them do what they want.
What Sony doesn't do is put much effort into overseeing the project. There's no one there that's saying, "why are we putting so much time/money into this feature?", "why are we doing this and not that?". Or to be more particular, "If we're going to put so much effort into rally/nascar/kart racing, why don't we just finish GT5 then make a rally/nascar/kart racing game?", "Why are we not supporting racing wheels that many of our customers already own?", "are ps2 car models really going to look good side by side with new ps3 models?", "How many people really want B-spec mode?", "Should we have a more robust online mode?", "What are out competitors up to?"
Polyphony clearly has a very talented staff, and GT5 isn't a bad game at all. However it reeks of a project that was allowed to get caught up in itself and lose direction. It's a trap that any sort of designer or artist risks falling into, you have to step back and look over everything that you're doing objectively to make sure you aren't wasting your time on something that really isn't important. You need to fix existing problems and make sure that everything new you add fits right. Otherwise you end up with a finished project that may be extremely good, but still has a bunch of bizarre problems.
Now to get to the point! There's a difference between just trolling, and legitimately complaining about problems as a consumer and a enthusiast. There's plenty of reasons to bitch about Sony and GT5. Like I said pages back, I feel bad for people that spent $600 4 years ago because they wanted a PS3 for GT5. 4 years later they spent way more than they needed to, have a game that's very good (but not that much better than it's competitors), and even after 6 years in the oven the games still needs online updates right after release.
If people don't bitch loudly, incessantly, and sometimes rudely nothing will change. Games are a business, money is what matters. Crappy dlc will always cost money if people keep buying it, Sony will keep making bs claims if people keep falling for them, XBL will always cost money if people keep paying for it, games will need day 1 patches if people keep accepting it. When a company spends 6 years making a highly anticipated game, delays it numerous times, and ultimately delivers a game that's very good, but clearly lacks direction and could have been much better, then they deserve a horde of pissed off fans. They knew you were going to buy it, and they let you down. Sure buy the game, and enjoy it, but bitch up a damn storm about what you don't like about, blow up the official forums and send emails. Don't accept a very fine filet mignon when you were lead to expect Kobe, at least not without protest. It shouldn't be the people that don't even have that much invested in the game that are doing all the bitching.
This isn't even relevant to just GT5, this is to some degree about all games. I'm really sick of gamers putting up with the crap that companies pull because they know that they can shit all over their their user base with very few major repercussions. It's downright embarrassing as someone that's enthusiastic about video games, and cares about what the industry is doing and where it's going to see this happen.
Enjoy the game guys, the last thing I'd want is for anyone to not enjoy themselves. And do keep the photo mode pics coming, they're really impressive, retail real time rendering software doesn't even look that good. But please just don't act like there's nothing wrong, no one is above criticism ever.
That ends a rant that's been building for 5 years, whew!

No doubt I think everyone knows this.. But I think they really made a near 180 in the last couple of years..t0yrobo wrote:

The other two corporations have done the same thing, but you're going to single out sony?t0yrobo wrote:-Sony has repeatedly made RIDICULOUS statements about their consoles abilities and hasn't delivered. Number crunching? And I want links... The processor is not really responsible for the gaming, that's the video card... The processor handles more of the physics and movement of the game similar to the memory moreso than the graphics, and it sure can handle gaming.. You don't need a traditional PC processor when you're building a console, it's suppose to handle limited applications, not be a replacement for the PC..-The Cell is a very powerful processor, but it's strengths largely aren't gaming related. PLain not that simple? What are you talking about? You don't need to be a developer to understand hardware..t0yrobo wrote:(I really don't want to hear any statistics or other crap about the Cell vs whatever's in the 360 unless you're a developer with intimate working knowledge of both systems, it's just plain not that simple guys.)
And MS and Nintendo hasn't announced this either?t0yrobo wrote:Moving on, I think GT5 creates a rather interesting scenario. Name all the crazy claims please? All I'm hearing is that it's another GT game... And it has online racing(albeit still has kinks)..t0yrobo wrote: And GT is a prestige series, it looks good, is technically impressive, and makes a lot of money. It's quite the feather in Sony's hat. And again MS and Nintendo doesn't do the same thing? What about Halo series and games like Epic Mickey and Other M which are disappointments as well, yet you aren't talking about those..t0yrobo wrote:Now while Sony is inflating expectations to astronomical levels that they simply can't deliver on and Gran Turismo is all wrapped up in it, what's happening at Polyphony Digital? And how do you know this do you even post on Sony's boards? Also what's wrong with having multiple aspects of racing, it's a racing simulator and kart racing and nascar plays a big role as well..t0yrobo wrote:What Sony doesn't do is put much effort into overseeing the project. Not sure if I totally agree with this either, but I can see how many have come to that conclusion..t0yrobo wrote:Polyphony clearly has a very talented staff, and GT5 isn't a bad game at all. I agree, we need to be more vocal about games, but I would think posting on Playstation and GTP forums would probably get better feedback.. Making some suggestions could always go a long way, plus I'm sure they recognize the issues which is why they are updating! That's the beauty of this gen, you can improve a game on the fly if it has its problems.. Just look at FF XIV, it's considered a disaster at release, but now it's getting some good feedback after a couple of patches...t0yrobo wrote:Now to get to the point! If you're going to criticize be consistent, GT5 isn't the only game that has disappointed people, yet I see a number of posts ripping the game! They always have made inflated claims about what their systems were capable of this is no different.t0yrobo wrote: -Sony has repeatedly made RIDICULOUS statements about their consoles abilities and hasn't delivered. Does anyone remember Emotion Engine = 66 million polygons performance ?
They still using the claim the PS3 is sooo much more powerful to shift their systems.
This is where the claims for GT5 came from because the expectations were so great of a 6 year in development game it had to be something special.
However while it's a really good game I think it was over ambitious as while it does a lot of things well some things not so well.
The phrase that comes to mind is Jack of all trades master of some
Amen to that btw even Polyphony said that GT5 isn't as good as they wanted it to be but somehow everyone has ignored that.t0yrobo wrote: Enjoy the game guys, the last thing I'd want is for anyone to not enjoy themselves. I'm sure it's down to the fact that they wanted all the great features in the game but at the same quality all round rather than some extremely detailed models and some poor quality.
The review on gametrailer's gives quite an in depth review of it's shortcomings and triamphs

In love and war everything goes.
I honestly can't see why we can't allow the people who like GT5 to enjoy talking about their game.
