The next Batman film.
Re: The next Batman film.
I liked Wolverine more than X-men 3. It is a passable comic book film in a genre where the standards to be so are ridiculously low...there are maybe 3-4 comic book films that hold up well in terms of directing/acting/plot compared to other films, but that really can't be an expectation going in.

You mentioned Origins in your previous post.BurningDoom wrote:Where was X-Men Origins mentioned?BurningDoom wrote: Batman maybe not, but X-Men Origins yes.
But nonetheless, it was awesome. And I can't be the only one that feels that way, because it's #2 on the DVD charts. #1 it's debut week.
...and you aren't really using the 'it made a lot of money therefore it was great' argument are you?

This is Wolverine Origin:Luke wrote:I don't have incredibly high standards, I just don't like movies that 10 years after their release look like garbage. And you didn't say you loved GL, you said it was good. It's not. It's tripe. And I'm glad superhero movies aren't like Gone With the Wind, as that movie puts me to sleep. However, I do expect an actual movie with character development, exposition, acts, and most of all a decent plot. Spider-Man has these, it just doesn't do it well.BurningDoom wrote: Yep, incredibly high standards, I was right.
Seriously, you didn't like Batman? How could you not like that movie?
And Spawn was good.
Also, what was wrong with Wolverine: Origins?
Where did I ever say I didn't like Batman? Nowhere, that's where. I could probably recite the opening credits line for line I've seen it so many times. It remains my favorite Batman film, and I still watch the VHS version with the Coke Lite commercial, and the Daffy/Bugs WB exchange ("you can't watch a warner brothers movie without wearing a warner brothers ball cap").
What was wrong with Origins? Where to start? Even the title was rushed. "Wolverine" would have been fine. I already know Logan's origin from the comics, and I like that origin much better than the one on film. No bone claws please.
The boxing scene is one of the stupidest things I've seen on film, and the rest of the film looks like it was directed by an Ed Wood want to be, but without the charm. The SE were awful for what's available (again, rushed) and the wire work is more than obvious. And my oh my, why didn't they use anything from Wolvie's comic past? It's just a showcase of stupidity and mutants. A better movie would have focused on Patch if ya ask me.

This is X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

I was talking about Wolverine Origin, because I thought that's what you were talking about due to the wording. One word makes a world a difference of here.
But still, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a fine movie. It wasn't as good as X2 or X-Men First Class, but it was still leaps and bounds better than X-Men 3.
I am quite happy with the comic book movies of today. When I was a kid, the ONLY good comic book movies were Batman and the first 2 Superman movies, that was it.
And Ed Wood quality? You are completely ridiculous. Either that or you've actually never seen an Ed Wood movie. They aren't even close, just like your meaningless MST3K comment. Not even close. You want to see super-hero movies that are Ed Wood quality, then look at the 70s Marvel films:

I can accept that they're not your cup of tea. But the way you're trying to tear these films down to nothing is completely failing here. Try not to use so many unbelievable exaggerations. You're talking to a guy who's dad actually enjoys Ed Wood and the cheesy 50s sci-fi movies. Ed Wood would be crapping in his panties if he could create anything that even comes close to approaching Spider-Man.

Re: The next Batman film.
Uh-huh. Fine = Wolverine. Good = Green Lantern. Jesus Christ I would hate to hear what movies you don't like. You'd give Good Burger 4 stars if it was based on a comic.BurningDoom wrote: But still, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a fine movie.

Not going to comment on your suggestion that I've never seen an Ed Wood movie other than he also made really shitty movies, although his movies weren't meant to be campy, but had charm.
Meaningless? Hmm, let's see. Oh! The guys at MST3K DID did riff on Spider-Man. Not so meaningless now, eh?
And actually, they are my cup of tea when done well. You make too many assumptions for a grown adult. First "You didn't like Batman" which is very untrue, and "You don't like super hero movies" which is far from the truth. I just like decent movies and don't swallow the comic crap bullshit like you apparently do. AGAIN, I DO LIKE SOME HORRIBLE STUFF, and you're entitled to your opinion for certain, I just don't agree with you that SPAWN, GREEN LANTERN, or ORIGINS WOLVERINE were "fine" as movies. They sucked. Sucked it big. Sucked a fatty fatty boom-balatty. FIRST CLASS was "fine" at best, but not great. X-2 was Good, for sure. One of the best comic book based movies ever, and Iron Man was probably the best action movie of it's year; but the aforementioned movies in our discussion just... Well they suck.
Watch them again in a few years and I would be shocked if you didn't agree with me.

You said you'd rather watch Batman than Spider-Man; I took that as you thinking it was cheesy, other people responded in a similar manner as me.Luke wrote:And actually, they are my cup of tea when done well. You make too many assumptions for a grown adult. First "You didn't like Batman"
And you want to know what I think is a bad comic movie, here you go:
-The Amazing Spider-Man
-Batman Returns
-Batman Forever
-Batman & Robin
-Captain America (1979)
-Captain America II: Death to Soon
-Catwoman
-Dr. Strange (Live-Action)
-Elektra
-Spider-Man 3
-Superman III & IV
-Tank Girl
-Watchmen (I know, other people loved it, but it was just too damn dark and depressing for me)
-X-Men 3
X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Spider-Man are leaps and bounds better than the movies listed up there.
Now on the other hand, here's what I consider the best comic films:
-Batman (1989)
-Batman Begins
-Blade
-The Crow
-Daredevil (I think all the hate this film gets is just because it's cool to hate on Ben Affleck, not that I'm an Affleck fan or anything myself, but he did play a fine Daredevil at least)
-The Dark Knight
-Sin City
-Spider-Man 2
-Superman 1 & 2
-X-Men 2

...did you happen to see the Director's Cut? I've heard that it's leaps and bounds better than the messy theatrical one, and actually a pretty good movie.BurningDoom wrote: -Daredevil (I think all the hate this film gets is just because it's cool to hate on Ben Affleck, not that I'm an Affleck fan or anything myself, but he did play a fine Daredevil at least)
Heh, didn't you say earlier you liked Batman Returns or was it someone else?
(As far as Watchmen goes, have you ever actually read the comic it was based on?)

No, I didn't say I liked Batman Returns. Never. I saw it in the theater, and while everything looked pretty, the story and the action were really lacking.AppleQueso wrote:...did you happen to see the Director's Cut? I haven't seen the Director's Cut, I bought it as soon as it came out on DVD so I didn't pay attention to later releases, I guess.
And I have read the Watchmen Graphic Novel, felt the same about it. Just too dark and depressing. Don't like depressing stuff, most of the time.

Re: The next Batman film.
Mm,
Don't get me wrong, Watchmen has a lot of problems as a movie, but I don't really think 'it was too dark for me' is enough to put it on a list alongside Catwoman, Superman III & IV, Batman & Robin, Captian America (1979), etc.

Re: The next Batman film.
Huh. Yeah I didn't get that vibe at all either. I liked the movie but probably nothing I'd want to watch again, my main issue was that it was just simply too long. I think I did see it a second time once at a friends and that's when I was really feeling it.
Re: The next Batman film.
I think Mystery Men is the best superhero movie of all time.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
