Gradius III added - works for me since I love that one.

The issue with RPGS is finding a good one that is multiplatform that isnt Final Fantasy... We are open to suggestions on that.

The choice of Alpha series was actually by the big boss, so I am hesitant to change it. That said, make me an argument for another game. Fair enough?

I wouldn't be opposed to Final Fantasy personally. Any of the early ones. Lots of ports, but I'm sure most are against it since it's a bit of a cliche.

Pit Fighter had a ton of ports

Jan: Dragon Warrior - NES and Gameboy
Feb: Street Fighter Alpha series - Arcade, Playstation, Saturn, Gameboy, PC, SNES
Mar: Faceball 2000 - Gameboy, SNES, Gamegear, PC
Apr: Deja Vu - NES, GBC, PC, Mac, etc

May: Puyo Puyo - everything
Jun: Parodius Da - Arcade, Gameboy, SFC, Saturn, PSX
Jul: Rayman - Jaguar, Saturn, PSX, PC, GBA, DSi
Aug: Populous - everything

Sep: Bases Loaded - Arcade, NES, Gameboy, Wii
Oct: Splatterhouse - TG16, modern, PC
Nov: Nobunaga's Ambition - everything
Dec: Super Monkeyball - Arcade, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, GBA
Possible suggestions for changes I'd make:

Jan: Something more easily available in Europe would be nice. I'm not sure what though. The only easily universal games I can think of are in already well played series such as Final Fantasy or Pokemon. I thought maybe grandia, but it turns out it was only on saturn in Japan, meaning its PS1 only everywhere else.

Apr: Sam & Max Season 1! Actually, I dont mind the choice of Deja Vu at all, I just want to play sam & max XD

Sep: I have no idea here. Feel free to choose any baseball game you like. Bases loaded isnt available in PAL land for what its worth.

Nov: Command & Conquer or Shining Force. Nonobuga's ambition is unavailable in Europe, even on Virtual Console.

I think the other suggestions are great personally. I wouldnt have minded these ones either but for their availability or price here being an issue.

Deja Vu was my one suggestion that I really feel strongly about. :|

I also thought of Shining Force. Tons of ports! Awesome game!

So yes.
There's one on GBA too, under the name columns crown.

Fighting - Last Blade series

FPS - Deus Ex (would love a podcast on this!)

Baseball - World Series Baseball '95 (GEN, GG, 32X, SAT)

RPG - maybe a WRPG for a change? Baldur's Gate (there's a PS1 version unreleased). I am struggling to think of cross platform WRPGs, too. Maybe Morrowind? Again, I am thinking about possible podcast ideas here too...

Puzzle - Columns is fine I guess, but I think something a bit more obscure but still widely ported - like Zoop - might be good too.

How about Puzzle League for Puzzle. Its on SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, DSi and N64 in some form or another off the top of my head.

Also, I was under the impression that Last Blade was rather cost prohibitive.

Finally, what about Grandia II for RPG. Available on Dreamcast, PS2 and PC apparently.
