I've actually got something similar planned. Thanks! :)

I love this blog, keep the posts coming. The Nintendo Power Advance issues were awesome. I too wish they had continued making these for a few years rather than 4 issues. I remember oogling over the life sized picture of the GBA and pouring over the specs in the first issue. In fact I had to go buy an import GBA at my local Game Pedler because I couldn't wait any longer.

that's awesome man. And thank you for the encouragement. It might sound cheesy, but people telling me that they're actually reading the damn blog definitely keeps me motivated to keep it going. :)

It's definitely nice to hear when people enjoy something that you've spent time writing. Even little comments mean a ton to me, so I can totally understand what you are saying!

I had no idea there was a Parodius on the Gameboy. Interesting. I played a lot of R-Type on the Gameboy and eventually traded up to the color version when it came out around 1999 or 2000. I was never able to make it very far. I think maybe the 4th level after the huge ship level was about as far as I could make it. I recently picked up Solar Striker when Gamestop clearaced out their Gameboy games about a year ago. I went crazy at one store and bought their whole stock of around 40 games at 90% off with Edge card. I ended up selling a lot of the crappy titles at a local game store (Mary Kate and Ashley and Racing Rats anyone?) but I ended up keeping Solar Striker because it was much more awesome than I thought it would be. I think it was actually a first party Nintendo title if I am correct? Have you played it on the Gameboy Advance or the Gameboy Advance Player? The added colors are awesome. Its like the game was meant to be colorized. One other "shooter" I enjoyed was Star Trek on the original Gameboy. Though it was not purely a shooter with some planet exploration sections, I thoroughly enjoyed the parts where you controlled the Enterprise and shot at various Klingons, Romulans, and space amoeba type things (and asteroids). It had a fun balancing act of deciding how best to divert your power (shields, phasers, speed) and you had to decide which balance was the best for each level. Good stuff...

I actually meant to mention this. Seeing as how my blog is called Game Boy Player Land, you might imagine that I use the Gamecube Game Boy Player a lot. At any rate, Solar Striker looks AMAZING when colorized. The moons are a bright yellow against the dark black space. It's so apparent that they thought about the colorization way back then -- sort of like how Metroid II has color information so that Samus LOOKS LIKE Samus when colorized. So awesome.

Never played this. I'm not a Star Trek fan, so I've never really tried any of the games. I actually was not even aware of this one as being a shooter to be honest...

There's a gameboy colour version of parodius available in Japan and Europe as part of the Konami Game Boy Collection cart Volume 2. I have it, it has colour versions of parodius, track and field, frogger and quarth. It's also pretty cheap, I got my unboxed cart for £5 (about $7.50US).
