My supremely important opinions define what is art. If I hate a "song" clearly it isn't music.
Just so you all know, Call of Duty isn't a game either.

I really don't have strong feelings about rap either way. However, after living in a pretty rough neighborhood where people were shuffling down the street rapping to themselves at all hours (no joke), and the area had all the problems that a lot of rap is about/encourages, the music really has no charm imo.
I agree. Part of what makes it unappealing is the stuff that surrounds it, and what a lot of it is about. The music appeals to the types of people who are more likely to take its message seriously. I don't think you could find another genre of music so connected to drugs, violence, gangs, and general ignorance.
And yes I know there are rappers who make a point to be the opposite of that, that doesn't represent all listeners, etc. etc.
This is more or less my feelings on the matter, it’s not that I feel rap isn't music or that it is talentless, it is that most mainstream rap perpetuates awful stereotypes and is the music most suitable for the lawless. Degenerate behavior, most often the subject of many a rap song, is not something to be celebrated or supported.

I'm sorry to use a triple quote, but fuck all of you, seriously.
First of all, there are plenty of other genres that "promote" just as bad as a message. If you want to jump on the "blame the music" bandwagon, why don't you blame Metal, Punk, Psychedelic, well fuck it, almost every sub genre of Rock and Roll. They all promote drug use, most of them promote violence, and they definitely all promote "general ignorance." It's not as if Rap came along and it was the first genre that seemed to tackle subversive content. This has gone on for years, and there's no point in blaming one genre when it's just as prevalent a message in many others. It's totally great that you've decided to become this generations old fogies, yelling at the new craze, be sure to tell me how the next record bonfire goes.
Second of all, if you really think all of that is subversive and shouldn't promote such a bad message, why on earth are you on a video game forum? Why is this bad and the heap upon heaps of violence and wrong doing in our favorite past time OK? Sure, hip hop and rap culture has the whole celebrity factor to adhere to, but surely video gaming has you actually committing the crime. Isn't that worse?
Finally, I'm glad that you guys think that you can separate yourself from the masses and decide that you are above the hypnotic influence of the times. It isn't the terrible conditions of their neighborhood, schools, and prolonged lifestyle stuck in almost federally mandated issue of neglect. It's Little Wayne that causes them to commit crimes. It's funny because when you see a lot of these people rapping in your shitty neighborhoods, its because they want a way out. You can say that there's a terrible message in the crime in rap, but almost every rap superstar has at least one hit song that's about making it out of their terrible situation through rap. How incredibly audacious of them to sit around and rap on the corners, fuck having hope, huh?

I can't say I have heard many metal songs that talk about how big someone's booty is. But I have heard fornicating with a knife.
True there are a lot of genres of music that really are distasteful but for the most part the music is underground or uses vague metaphors.
Rap on the other hand has come to the point that it's almost pop, and you can go to stores and hear open vulgarity not even trying to be hidden.
I work for F.Y.E. one of the only music store chains left in america. Out of all the other genres of music rap is the only section that for almost any standard release there is also an edited version. In metal only a few ,mostly bands like Disturbed, same for pop/rock with Katy Perry and similiar artist being the only ones, R&B even less. Not saying other genres don't need edited version also, my point is even the label records know rap music is popular and vulgar enough that they need edited versions.
People can listen to whatever they want. But people idolizing people like lil wayne really bothers me, especially if they take the music seriously.
A good similarity would be how this community feels about Call of Duty. If COD and its clones weren't so popular must of us wouldn't even complain about it. The fact that its in your face and you can't avoid it makes us dislike it even more even if there are games you think are worse. If rap was more underground like metal most of us wouldn't care or complain.

I agree with everything you said, except the "fuck you all" part. I know yr just being passionate here, but you made a bunch of really valid points without the need for stooping to that level.

You didn't address this.

I don't play very many games that deal with the same themes that the rap I was referring to deals with. I also never said rap shouldn't promote that message, it's just not one I want to hear in my music, and not one that I relate to.

a terrible message in the crime
