Best Final Fantasy game? (in your opinion)

I absolutely love Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, I must have put a good few hundred hours into that game.


Personally though, my absolute favourite Final Fantasy is FFIX. It takes everything I liked about the earlier final fantasys and polished it perfectly. it also did away with the sci-fi and steampunk stuff i wasnt especially keen on from the previous few FF games. I also really like FFXII and FFV, but generally the whole series is quite good.

I don't get the X hate. I liked X. I think it was the last decent one they've put out. I didn't much care for the FF tactics advance games, but only because they were more grindy, and not at all what I hoped a follow up to the original tactics would have been like.

what? First of all, there's only ONE FFTA game. Not gameS. And second of all, how could a game that is basically NOTHING but battles, NOT be grindy?

I guess I should elaborate - I guess the point of FFTA was just the battles - there wasn't really a story behind it, just various missions you take on and go to. The Tactics on the playstation had (I thought, at least) a great story and great characters, instead of just random ones with no real story behind them. Again, not that the FFTA games were bad, they were just a let down for me given the prior installment (Although, I think it was a good choice to put them on portables, as they worked really well in playing in small increments).

you hit the nail on the head there. That's a big part of what I love about this game. I love to pick it up, play for 20 mins and then put it down for a month. Y'know? It's like how people used to play chess by mail with a penpal or something... it's a short burst of thinking and then you wait a while to make your next move.

Which is why Advance Wars DS lives in mine right now. FFTA2 or one of the squareenix remakes will probably take it though.

I would actually add to this, don't make your summons TOO powerful..folks that have beaten the game will know why.

LOL YES!!! I spent ages levelling my summons (especially Anima) and all i said when i killed the final boss was: "REALLY........REALLLYYYY????"

I have never managed to get Final Fantasy 6 started more than 10 minutes.

I have now got it for GBA and i'm forcing myself to play it this weekend. Hopefully it's as good as you people say!

Best? I don't know. I find that the FF games that do good in the gameplay department, are somewhat lacking in the story department and vice versa. I like FFVIII the most for the story, but I like FFXIII the most for the gameplay (I know, I know linear blah blah blah).

See i don't know why 12 is so liked. am i missing something? while the gameplay is tolerable and sometimes fun, i find that the story is mediocre and the characters (aside from two of them) are just down right bland. i have been trying to play that game with all my might and no matter what, it was really difficult for me to enjoy fully. does the game pick up in story at all or does it stay the same through most of it?

Not everyone likes FF12. I loved it mostly from a gameplay perspective. The gambit system, the realistic way they designed the world maps, the large number of optional, tough challenges and the built in achievement system in the game appealed to me. FF12 was really built for hardcore FF players IMHO

Storywise, I felt FF12 was big on plot and light on character development. However, I enjoy how Basch's story plays out and I like Fran's backstory as well. Balthier wasn't that impressive to me storywise, but he's such a cool character. The series hasn't had a truly fantastic tale since FFX in my opinion(though tainted a bit by FF X 2's shitty excuse for a story). FF6 still tops them all story-wise though. That's old school Final Fantasy right there

I like ff12 because of Matsuno's ideas, atmosphere, world. i like basch and ashe, Matsuno wanted them as main characters...
then because of Squareenix project failed... ;/
