OMG! Space Harrier is way harder than I remember!

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

It's a "bad" classic game. Right there with Altered Beast.

The Genesis game, Space Harrier II, is actually one of the easier ones. It's not well loved but it was my first exposure to Space Harrier so I think it's alright.

The arcade original is fast and brutal. It's a little easier on the Master System due to being slower but the enemy patterns are the same so it's good practice for the arcade.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection has the arcade version on it. 3DS has it in 3D along with most of the other Sega Super Scaler games. And it's freakin' awesome.

I cannot stop recommending the 3DS Super Scaler ports.

I agree with the sentiment that Golden Axe isn't great in retrospect and is a "bad classic", I feel the same about the original arcade Double Dragon.

I tend to reach for Golden Axe II over it since the actual gameplay is more polished. Having a back attack changes everything and the overall hit detection just seems more solid but that might be my imagination.

But yeah, it's not nearly as poop as Altered Beast which is only still worth playing today because it's so freaking bizarre. Between Altered Beast and Space Harrier there were a lot of drugs going around at Sega.

I'm pretty sure it was the good stuff though.
