Cheapest cards I've seen at retail are 1600 points ($20) and the lowest amount you can buy through the dashboard is 500 points ($6.25).PGchris wrote:ah! still can't decide I really want to play SOTN but I loved the Braid demo, spent like three hours looking for some sort of internet promotion to try and scare up 200 points. Probably just going to go out tomorrow and buy some more points, do they have 10 dollar cards?

Re: Help me decide on a XBLA game
Symphony of the Night on the PS1 is not rare. Such a persistant myth. Ebay sellers just want to rip people off. If you haven't played it before, I'd suggest it over 90% of the games on Xbox Live Arcade, but it is a shitty port though. Honestly, the Xbox Live version is a bit of a hack job. I'd only recommend it as last resort(though it's better than the god awful Saturn version). Original PS1 or Dracula X:Chronicles versions are the best.
Braid is great, but it's one quick, interesting ride and then you'll never play it again. It's really not a game I'll think about years from now
Castle Crashers rocks! I just hope they've dealt with the online issues by now.
And yes, that game NEEDS to be ported to...well hell, anywhere really. I'd like to see that game get more exposure. It certainly deserves it more than Alien Hominid did and that game was everywhere

Didn't Castle Crashers just get patched finally last week? It said it fixed the 4 player online issues.Gamerforlife wrote:Symphony of the Night on the PS1 is not rare. Such a persistant myth. Braid 100%. There has never been anything like this. Worth every penny.
And this comes from a huge SOTN fan. But Braid is just shockingly good.

Re: Help me decide on a XBLA game
I don't get the SOTN comments. You can easily get it for cheaper so many other ways... I own the PS, Saturn AND the 360 version. And the 360 version pails... ESPECIALLY the controls.
Okay, I'll put it to you this way... SOTN has this magic/attack system set up as combos on the dpad. The thing is the 360's dpad is in a HORRIBLE place to pull these off and the analog stick is far from forgiving. Just to do the high jump (which is sooo easy on the Saturn and PS) is a pain in the ass to pull off. It really pissed me off a lot to tell you the truth! Even the reactivity of the 360's dpad (nevermind its position) is shitty.
Which reminds me... they really need to make a wireless arcade stick for the damn 360!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I understand, MS has a licensing system for a proprietary wireless tech so no 3rd party hardware companies are likely to make a wireless stick. Ever. Which sucks.lordofduct wrote:Which reminds me... they really need to make a wireless arcade stick for the damn 360!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help me decide on a XBLA game
If you have never played SOTN before, then buy it. I don't have a PS3, 360, or PSP, so I had to buy the PS1 version and a PS1 just to play it. IT IS SO WORTH IT. If your a fan of the GBA and DS Castlevania games (especially the Sorrow and Ecclesia games) buy it now.
NOW
Edit: If the controls really suck in this port, then don't bother. (get the PSP version)

Re: Help me decide on a XBLA game
I'm with recommendations for Braid, Portal, Triggerheart Excelcia, Ikaruga, Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers.
Oh yeah, and if had I never played SoTN, I don't feel I'd have missed out - believe it or not some people just don't 'get' the 'get lost and don't know what to do next' genre of platformers championed by Castlevania and Metroid...

Re: Help me decide on a XBLA game
I recommend Braid. It's over pretty quickly if you a good lateral thinker. Only a few puzzles stumped me for longer than 5 minutes. It took me about 2 hours to complete from start to finish the only achievement I am yet to get is the speed run but that's only because I can't be bothered to do it just yet.
SOTN is ok on the 360. The main problem I have is the same as LoDs. It's almost impossible to get the combos to work. So if you have a normal 360 controller you are going to want to throw it through the window. Or take the sane route and mod your controller.
Personally, if you have a PS1 that's modded you should buy SOTN or download it if you can't afford it. (I prefer Dracula X on the Saturn though, it's not that hard to play in Japanese and there are plenty of translations on the net.).
I'd recommend against Doom. It's been ported so many times for so many formats that getting it on 360 is such a waste of money.
Pac Man CE is awesome. The best version of Pac Man ever (it's not a straight port with pretty graphics either)
Settlers of Catan is great, if you are into strategy games or if you have played the board game it's worth getting. I'd download the demo first to see if it's your bag because I admit it's not for everyone.
Rez is awesome and easily one of the best games for the system (yes even full retail games).
Ikaruga is one of the best ports of the game. If you own the GC and DC versions it's probably not the best purchase ever but it is definitely worth it to see the game in ultra sharp HD. For some reason it still has the same slowdown when the bosses blow up, but it's not too bad and I guess it's characteristic, plus it was probably forced in the game as a nod to the issue that has plagued shmups for years.
Marble Blast Ultra is also pretty cool. That game is addictive as hell.
