It's good to see replies and no flamewar get started as a result. Even on Destructoid.

Also, Nethack is amazing. I'm hoping for a great Pandora port where I can actually read what's going on *cough* NDS.

I believe a hardcore game is something old school,2D,or something with mature content like Gears of War or Quake. In my opinion,a hardcore gamer is someone who has a nice collection of games, owns lots of different game systems, plays games that the average casual gamer won't play, and owns all the great games even imports,I think that covers it.
Systems: Sega Dreamcast(x2), Sega Genesis(x2), Sega Saturn, Sega CD, Genmobile (portable Genesis), FC Twin, PSX, PS2(x2), GBA, SP, Xbox 360, N64, Showcase Arcade

found this.. quite entertaining

I enjoy hearing opinions on this since the definition is not clearly defined since it is not commonly agreed upon. It's a word whose properties are completely formed by nothing more than opinion.

Edit: After reading through the 7 page thread, I've finally found my personal answer to this question. I don't think there is such thing as a hardcore game. There is such thing as a hardcore gamer. The dedication and devotion of the player determines in each individual case whether a game is casual or not. A family who plays Wii Sports once a month are probably not hardcore. However, then you have people like myself who are determined to beat the champion or the best team on every sport and then still attempt to double that score just because.
I think this is the opinion I shall stick with.
