Niode wrote:You are probably better off just getting a Wii. All the games that supported progressive scan mode on the GC will work the same on the Wii. Some games require you to hold A during boot up for it to work though others just detect the component cable and ask if you want to use progressive scan mode.
(remember to switch off the flicker filter in super smash bros for a nice smooth picture!!)

These things are going for like $180 solid now.

$180?! Loose?

*checks eBay completed auctions*

Wow. The lowest price for the month of April was $130. Looks like they're on the rise again.

I got mine last September for $115.

I can use component with my Wii, which is how I play all of my GameCube games.

As for the Game Boy Player, the Retron 5 will be out soon which is HD!!!

So let me get this straight the Gamecube outputs a digital signal that is converted to analogue inside the Component cables? So theoretically could someone make an HDMI cable for the Gamecube?

$180 for a damn cable!

That's a used BC Wii, Component cables, and some games for both systems.

The other reason why they are so expensive is that Nintendo was always out of stock on their website. Nintendo would manufacture a few and people would snap them up quickly and it would be a long time in between re-stocks. I got in on the last production run by chance after months of watching.

Again for the people that don't know this, there's a chip inside the GC cable that coverts the signal. It has not been replicated by anyone, that's why there are no 3rd party GC component cables.

During one of our charity auctions/secret santas (we had one of those right?)/some event three or four years ago, I think someone sent me a box of random cables including a GC component cable.

If you have a third party one, I would love to see a picture of it. I have never heard of the existence of a third party component cable, hence the high price for the Nintendo brand cable. Even Monster cable stuck with S-video for the Gamecube as their "high end" cable.
