Unleashed is good as well. People just expect too much from a Sonic title. The game is good.

Valkyria Chronicles is amazing. Buy a PS3 to play it. As a side perk you also can play the fantastic Uncharted.

As far as the upcoming Sega RPGS, I think 7th Dragon looks good. Shining Force feather is somewhat less known to me. Anyone have a link to a good Preview or something?
This is about all I know about Shining Force Feather: http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/09/03/shin ... up-the-ds/

DS Fanboy is where I got all this Sega DS RPG information, which kinda spurred me to create this thread.

Anyway, as far as the action games, I haven't played them. Not exactly because of the scores, but because I feel little incentive to. A game about Vikings fighting huge battles seems mildly interesting, but I wouldn't actually pay a large amount of money to play it. It seems like the games that would appeal to me are too bogged down with detracting features (Werehog in Unleashed, annoying Story and Children-Playing segments in NiGHTS, etc.). Not to say they're bad games; the word "terrible" was too strong a word choice in the original post, but not up to the standards of the rest of the industry, and not even touching Sega's standards of yesteryear.

Anyway, I stand by what I said about more cooperation between Sega and Treasure and the like.

Treasure is kind of overrated, in my mind.

Viking is fantastic, can't stress that enough. The Nights remake was okay, not great.

As far as playing Viking: Battle for Asgard, I might give it a try at some point in the more distant future. Without current plans to purchase a PS3 or replace my XBox 360, I don't see much point in it at the moment.

As for Treasure being overrated, I gotta ask, which games have you played? I figured I'd find Treasure overrated too, based on the ludicrous amounts of praise they get, but so far in all of their games I've played, I found them to each be classics.

I've played Gunstar Heroes, the Bleach fighting games, Astro Boy, and some others I can't think of. They make good games, but I just think they've gotten themselves embedded in the otaku/nerd/gamer psyche to the point of being highly overrated. Sidescrollers and fighting games aren't really that tough to make. Only the worst companies can screw those up.

You need to really try out some of the best Treasure has to offer and then decide how over-rated they really are. I agree some titles are amazing, but as a whole pretty stellar.
Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga are two of the finest shooters ever made.
Bangai-O is one of the funnest and most addictive puzzler/shooter/whatever you call it.
Astro Boy-the omega factor is is one of the best GBA games out there. Super fun and somewhat complex for a beat em up game.
I'm really impressed by Treasures gba games. Fun stuff.
The 8 & 16 bit era games are pretty stellar too. They are the team who brought Contra & Castlevania to life for Konami. Axelay is an awesome shooter. Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier are quite awesome too.

I highly disagree with your statement about beat em up's. It is really hard to make a fun, non-repetative, and rewarding beat em up. There are so many mediocre side scrollers who do nothing to really add to the experience. Guardian Heroes was really gound breaking by adding in leveling up and street fighter moves(final fight 3 did that too), plus the choose your own adventure aspect was a really great idea. Plus having decent physics and hit boxes are essential. It's not easy at all, and there really aren't that many truly great ones out there.

That's great that you like them. We're all here to enjoy games after all.

I played Ikaruga a lot and it's a great shooter. I didn't know Treasure developed it.

Gunstar Heroes is great, but Alien Soldier is absolute garbage.

I think they also did Sin and Punishment, right? Well now that I think about it I like them a good deal. So maybe I'll amend my opinion to being that they're are veeeery slightly overrated. ; )

I wish this was correct, but it isn't. These types of games appear to the uninitiated to be relatively simple affairs, but the truth is, getting good balance among game elements is actually quite difficult. Thing of how many crappy beat-em-ups and and side-scrollers have passed through game stores and faded from interest. Treasure's entries into these genres withstand the test of time relatively well, far better than most of their peers.
