I went there looking for the axial fuse to fix my sega cd and couldnt find it in the drawer of fuses. I asked the dude working there if they had any, and he told me that I probably knew more about that than he did and walked away... I was annoyed

You should feel lucky for getting an honest one. Usually they pretend to know more than you.SpaceBooger wrote:I went there looking for the axial fuse to fix my sega cd and couldnt find it in the drawer of fuses. Well there are a few things that your only going to get at a Radio Shack. You need some oddball AV connector / adapter RIGHT NOW. Yeah the prices suck but where else can you get it without waiting for shipping? Or if you want to do some little project like add an Svideo jack to your Sega genesis, you know who has the overpriced parts.
To answer the serious question at hand since most Radio Shacks are just franchises they do different things to stay profitable. I have two in my area that operate side companies. One is a video rental place / radio shack. The other used to be a TV repair place / radio shack but went into satellite TV installations.

120 Billion in US corporate welfare bailouts? Because everyone needs an overpriced cellular contract, a robot dog, a "state of the art" Tandy TRS-80... instead of real chicken broth for the soup at the homeless shelter.
Did you know that RadioShack was originally a leather goods manufacturer called Tandy... then turned to electronics under the name Radioshack and reused the name Tandy on their electronics.
It explains the funny smell in all Radioshacks!

My family's first computer was a Tandy from RS around 1990 or so. What a terrible machine that was.
There is just something annoying about going there. Between the prices, the people and the chintzy shit they have. I also recall leaving in a bad mood the last couple of times I was there, but thankfully it's been a while.

this is so crazy, my fiance and I were just having this conversation last night. I just asked five people if they ever buy anything there and they all said unless it's something obscure that they could get off the internet but need RIGHT NOW then never.
NES, SNES, N64, Genesis + 32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, PSP, Game Gear, Gameboy , Playstion, Wii!

Lol I wonder this all the time! How can they afford to pay for all the commercials they do? And who buys some of the stuff they sell in there? Who thinks, damn, I really need a new 22" lcd tv, better head to radio shack to contemplate which of the 3 tvs they carry I should get. While I'm there I'll pick up an r/c car that I have to assemble and they probably won't let me leave until I sign up for a new cell phone plan. I guess I'll look at the 20 other items they carry for msrp that I could get anywhere else on sale.
I wonder why Best Buy and Circuit City don't just start selling the little electronic nick nacks radio shack sells and put them completely out of business. Look at the size of a Best Buy and tell me they couldn't fit every product radio shack carries into ONE aisle.

Hahaha I just came acrossed this:
http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catal ... ctory.html
It's a collection of old radioshack catalogs from the 1940s til today. They really did put wood panelling on everything in the 70s. Gotta love those old cordless phones.

It's cause they have no competition locally for the most part. I know in my area Radioshack is the only place to get most electronic parts, CB and Ham Radio stuff, etc. for a good like 50 miles or more. I try to avoid buying there stuff but sometimes you just needa buy some solder right away. It's also why I don't buy from Wal-Mart....cause soon we'll be in the same situation with them when all local business around them go out of business. I miss Ames and I already miss KB Toys.
