I have a local hardware store that has been in business for almost 90 years. They have contacts for damn near anything mechanical I would ever need. So when I approached with the spring from the N64 they ordered me some top grade replacements. If memory serves me correctly, they cost me about ten dollars for five (steep I know). When replaced they worked fine for awhile then when limp again.
I will start investigating replacement methods in the future with my old sticks and whatever ones I end up with from Goodwill over the next few months. Never tried the third party stick innards in a first party case - that might work.
