my setup (genesis2 + 32x) would only work with one ac adapter, the genesis 2. if i plugged in the 32x adapter, i couldnt power off the unit. so that was a biggie, i didnt know whether or not something was wrong with my machines.
the other problem was that the heatsink on my board was in a different position (different rev. board) and i couldnt locate a proper spot to relocate it to.

actually, this is before i soldered anything together.
This happens when I have everything separate, unopened and still as Sega made it. I cant power off the unit when the 32x has its own power. I can shut it off properly when only the sega genesis has a power adapter.
Its been bugging me for months.

if it's a model 2 genesis mine also does that. I usually don't plug in the 32x's power. You can still play 32x games without the power. It's odd. On a genesis 1 I need to plug in the power to the 32x.
