I still use an R4 but I haven't tried any new games lately. I'm not sure how it could be considered outdated though? I find it extremely easy to use. I hate how the older systems have such expensive flash carts. The price on the R4 was really nice when I bought it a few years ago.

The R4 doesn't get any official firmware updates anymore. Newer games won't work on it. Unless you install a custom firmware like Woods R4. Unfortunately, the R4 was cloned and there are a lot variants out there. Woods R4 only works on the original R4, I believe.
The best flashcart to get at the moment IMO, is the AceKard 2i. Don't install the official firmware, use AKAIO instead. It has better support for newer releases.

Acekard 2i gets my votes. Nice customizable UI, easy to update, built in file manager, all wins in my book.
I bought it here, fastest shipping in USA, got mine in two days:

The CycloDS is the most feature-heavy card out there, but those features come at a higher cost. But, if you want the best flashcard available, then get the Cyclo. It's powerful, user-friendly, frequently updated, durable, has a mountain of features [Savestates, Slow Mode, Built-In Moonshell Support, Cheat Codes, etc.], and is just a great device overall.

The supercard two is by far the best. It has a seperate processor which makes proprietary programs possible, like the gba emulator so you can play your gba games on a dsi. It works really well and really fast. It also patches certain games with new security measures that other cards dont support, like pokemon black and white. GREAT card and only about 30 bucks. You can also customise the ui, though not as easily as some but, nonetheless, customizable.

The Cyclo is overpriced and doesn't get regular updates anymore such that it lags all the other cards.

The supercard and the cyclods are both good cards and have a lot of good features but they're also much more expensive than an acekard 2i.
If budget is tight, definitely go for the acekard 2i. If money is no object I guess either supercard or cyclods are good too. I love the fact that the cyclods comes in a tin box though!

I just bought a Supercard DSTWO. Was it the right choice? I saw it for 39.99 with free shipping and assumed that was very cheap and so I bought it without looking at any others. After I bought it, someone told me it doesn't play DS roms and I got scared.

Sure it plays DS roms. It can even play GBA roms via an inbuilt emulator.

One of the features on the DSTWO is the ability to boot from slot 2... Does this mean I can play roms from the SD card slot on the DSi?
