Perhaps a little bit but really I think it's down to the fact that outside of treasure fans there prob not more then 10k active shmup players in the west, if even that, unless you count nostalgia players. For a game like this that defies genre so to speak, and is done by a developer that's basically unknown by anyone outside of the genre it's basically going to flop here. I still stand by the fact if it had been a XBL release(given the 50mb limit at the time it came out though, making it not doable then) it would have done better. I think now though the mainstream review press that panned game just didn't understand it, for whatever reason, and I see this happening more and more, which is kinda worrisome to me, a perfect example is the fact trigger heart got a lot of bad press even as a XBL title, which is beyond me. I guess the majority of even the more active gaming community just have disconnected with what the arcade experience was like I think, maybe I'm just getting old, but it takes a certain type of masochist to pull the real enjoyment out of the simple to play but extremely difficult to master style of arcade ports in general.

Got this about a fortnight ago and have managed to log a few hours - Agreed that the cover art sucks - it looks even worse close up than on amazon or whatever!

I'm liking it, not played 2 player yet, but it looks like one where you'd both have to know what was going on - button mashing doesn't get you very far in this game.

It's gotta have the most unique soundtrack for either a shmup or a fighting game!

Keep on getting stuck and giving up at the boss stages of the story mode... any tips?

Well, the funnest boss mode for me is Mika Mikli. For the first part, you simply charge the central attack area, use your homing missing and any focused laser shots, while dodging a few bullets here and there, and it should be destroyed in five to ten seconds.

The second part involves a lot of hiding. Destroy the two turrets by swinging from the very top of the screen, fire bullets and homing missiles, and hiding behind the barriers while you recharge. When the turrets are gone and the central laser is exposed, attack in the last two seconds while the laser is still visible. That way you will get in a few shots before it's hidden again. So, you should pop out from one of the barriers, shoot, and hide and recharge until it's done shooting it's laser again. It takes a bit for this section, but it works well enough that I don't even take damage, usually.

The last part is a bit tricky, but it just takes patience as well. Fire at the central boss thing close up, and swing way back to avoid the bullet hell it unleashes on you. If you can't dodge, use your shield to cancel out it's fire. Keep firing, but not the homing missiles, until the barrier pops up that prevents either of you from dealing damage. Dodge the side laser by lining up with it's attacks and moving up, not down, to avoid being hit. There's another split second when the boss is exposed before he fires upon you again, so get up close, shoot your homing missiles, and swing back while you give him everything else you have, again dodging or bringing up a shield. As you damage him, he will shoot more bullets, so it just gets tougher. Simply rinse and repeat, and hopefully you do well.

Keep in mind that this is advice from a novice, too.

Now if I could only beat the boss in Cuilan's story...

Interesting - thanks for that - I had been just pumping lead (or plasma?) at the screen, which would get me past the first stage and then not do much . Thanks again.... Must work out the other bosses for myself :)

What a cool looking game. I stumbled upon an article for it on hardcoregaming 101. I couldn't believe it was released in '07 and I hadn't heard anything about it. It's offerings like that this make me want to get a 360... but then that means buying a new arcade stick and... *sigh*

Yup, it's dirt cheap used, as there wasn't much of a following. I WANTED to like it, but it hasn't received much attention from me after the initial play.
