IF the guy doesn't know much about softmodding and is apprehensive, I highly doubt that he's willing to track down a modchip and then solder it. Don't forget that he's going to have lend or buy a soldering iron if he doesn't have one.
Splinter Cell for xbox costs next to nothing. I've seen it for 99p in loads of second hand stores. Heck, Gamestation only sell it for £2.99. I bought it about 3 years ago for £4 brand new...
Show me a modchip that costs less than £10 incl shipping (aka the price of an xbox memory card, splinter cell and even an extension cable to mod into a xbox-usb cable) Or you can borrow vlames kit. Which is all of the above on a rental basis but with the software all ready to go. Just plug and play basically.
know of a Proper Xbox Softmod guide?

Anyone ever tried this method?

I dont have an action replay and nor do I car to buy one, but basically I want to be able to play dvix/xvid files from a disk and fit a bigger hard drive in the process. I could then maybe keep the original hard drive as it is and just stash it in case anything ever goes wrong.
