I wasn't a fan of Doom on XBLA but it had nothing to do with it's porting. The port is perfectly fine. It's just outdated to me, gameplay-wise.RadarScope1 wrote:Claudio and gradual are right. So convenient and some good ports. There's some bad ones too but Doom is not one of them. Playing it with the 360 controller for me was like cutting through butter with a hot knife. Just smooth and easy, baby.
In fact, this thread convinced me to sell my sealed PS2 Rez and buy it for the 360.

Re: The 360 has spoiled me.
I always wanted a 360 from the day it came out. BUT I usualy keep my consoles even when I've bought the next generation so I can play games that I missed, and in general replay old classics. The exception to this rule were my gameboys since every one was backwards compatible and recently the gamecube cause the wii is the first ninty console with BC.
BUT the 360 has 2 major flaws. First of all it's not compatible with xbox games. They started doing software emulation but later on decided to stop that and instead sell you the games you allready have (as xbox classics I think?) so you could play them on your new console. Now sony does that as well but at least ninty doesn't (vc is another thing, it's not like if they released adaptors for every single console anyone would buy them).
Second the RROD. MS can tell us all the crap it wants about it not being an issue anymore and xbots could hit their keyboard keys as hard as they can telling us that there is a 3 year guarantee but what happens after those 3 years huh? My mega drive is 12 years old and I still bring it out to play it. I have the sonic games on both mega collection plus on the ps2 and on the wii vc but I still prefer to bring out the mega drive to play them. Will I be able to do this with the 360?
No. Cause it's going to rrod sooner or later. And MS next console will not have BC as well. So as a retro gamer I'd be screwed.
And I hope steam adds achievments to all games. If they do that then LIVE won't have anything that steam doesn't (and steam also has mods
).
I think MS should do a redisgn of the xbox hardware. Like the nes, snes, mega drive,psone,ps2 have had. Not only will it increase sales, they can fix the machines issues and peopel won't worry of them braking down

They do... they just don't change the case it's in. There isn't actually only 2 versions of the Genesis here in the US, the genny 1 went through several revisions, then it went to the genny 2 case model and that went through several revisions.ZeroAX wrote: I think MS should do a redisgn of the xbox hardware. Yes, the same thing happened to me. I am quite the achievement whore. It is actually a relief sometimes to play a game without achievements because you are just playing the game for fun and not worrying about it.

Re: The 360 has spoiled me.
Odin Sphere is MASSIVELY, let me repeat that, MASSIVELY overrated. I'm not saying it sucks. Truthfully, it's just an average game with average gameplay that wouldn't have grabbed anyone's attention at all if it wasn't for the purdy graphics.
As for the 360, I use it a lot these days. I have a love/hate relationship with it. The achievement system, gamer profiles and gamer scores are all good ideas. However, by and large, they've been HORRIBLY executed. Ninety percent of 360 games have achievements that are completely stupid(play survival mode on Dead Rising for 14 hours and get a few lousy gamer points), pointless(you beat level 1, have an achievement newb), random(here's an achievement for killing this boss without getting hurt, but you don't get squat for doing that in the other boss fights) and just plain annoying. Some games are just basically dishing out achievements for money now(Buy vision camera and use it within our game and we reward you with an achievement).
Gamertags/profiles are too rigid in structure. You can't EVER remove anything from your profile, and with the latest Viva Pinata game we may see a trend starting of games not allowing you to redo certain things in the games you play because your Gamertag remembers that you've done it already. If you don't like the look of the dinosaur pinata you got in that game, you can't get another one EVER. Even if you start the game over from scratch, because the one you already got is permanently tied to your stupid gamertag. I don't need companies telling me what I can and can't do in the games I play.
I hate all the online issues as well. I won't play Castle Crashers or Marvel Ultimate Alliance online anytime soon as both games can get bugs online that will wipe out your saved data or make you lose characters and items. I'm afraid to download updates or even extra content because they have been known to cause issues in some games. I don't really like how the 360 has made console gaming more like PC gaming. I liked when the two were seperate(nothing against you PC gaming fans)
I hate the obsessive need Microsoft has to make every gamer want to go online with EVERYTHING they play and apparently they want gamers everywhere to become a gun toting maniac. Okay, that was a joke. I like the occasional shooter, but jesus the 360 has like fifty billion of them and the emphasis always seems to be more on going online and slaughtering your friends than actually saving the world or helping mankind. Single player? What's that? What the hell is a campaign mode? Does not compute.
Then there's the crappy backwards compatability, the red ring of death issues, etc, etc.
That being said, there are some GREAT games that are exclusive to the 360 and the Xbox Live market has done great things for indy gaming and retro-gaming, which I respect. Basically, I come to the 360 for the great games even though there is a lot I hate about the console itself and Microsoft as well.

Hey, lay off, the guy just had a kid. He's liable to be going nuts right now.
And for the record, I finally turned on my 360 and played a few rounds of Virtua Fighter 5 and enjoyed every minute of it. I know it's also on the PS3, but I don't own one and I'm not going to be able to afford it for a while. Plus, I don't like the L2 and R2 buttons on the PS3's controller...
