I agree. This system has a lot more retro appeal than the PSX. It's the last major system to use cartridges for one. It doesn't have the hugest library, but the stars it has shine brightly. Goldeneye, Zelda, Starfox, MarioKart 64, etc. It's hard not to like such a system.

It is pretty weak in RPGs and Shmups. But oh well. There are enough good games for it to be worth while. Besides the consoles only cost about $20 used, games about $5 a piece, it's really pretty easy to get a good collection. I've spent about $120 on my N64 since I got it in April, and I haven't felt the need to play any other console since. And I still have a stack of cartridges I haven't even touched yet.

Well even though I agree that I have more of a retro mindset with the N64 than the PS1, the Playstation has a lot of good 2D games that hold up a lot better than most early 3D games....

Has nobody played Ogre Battle 64 (best RPG on the console)? And like many here apparently, the N64 is one of my favorite systems. I have three  . My favorite version is the Pikachu Special Edition.

I love me some horrid Poke monstrosity bursting from my N64. His cheeks even light up when the power is on  . Picked it up for $15 with an official expansion and controller.

Ogre Battle 64 was fantastic. And Paper Mario was a nice RPG too. No crazy algorithm FAQs needed for that one. Damage = Attack - Def, and Attack and Def are extremely sane numbers, not in the 1000's.

Ok now I'm jelous. Just tried to set up my N64 inspired by this post and found that I don't have my power lead any more, it must have gone in the wrong box when I moved (parents moved to West Africa, I moved to UK) so it's gonna be half a year until I see it again along with my PS2 and Gamecube!!! :(

Agreed, I dont thinnk the N64 has any 2D games and a lot of the early 3D stuff has aged teribly, but then some of it still has great charm I think. Oot still manages to look great despite all those murky greens and a square objects - rember the weird egg near the start?

N64 bigger on the one side to make room for pikacho? or is it the angle of the photo?

@andymol21, thats a real shame you've temporarily lost your PSU and its a weird one as well that you arent really gonna find anywhere else are you. You could still share the pics though

Well they seem to be about £5 on ebay so I think I'll just order one from there once my new bank account gets set up.

The funtastic series ones are really nice, but a complete copy of the original iMac that had come out at the same time. I like them though, especially the controller.

N64 is your fav? I really like it myself but I don't hear many people say that~
Also, you know the SNES and GC video cable works for the N64, right? You don't have to settle for RF...

Yeah N64 has always been my console of choice. It was the one I grew up with (had a SNES and a Master System before but only got into games properly in about 1996) so I guess that influences it. Yeah I know the GC cables work, but as I said my GC has been shipped to Africa :( . I hope it gets there ok and I'm able to pick it up when I go out there, the company it's being shipped with is pretty bad at "losing" stuff...
