Capcom had it back in 98, Puzz Loop. I could swear they stole it from some other company.

My idea of a hardcore gamer are the ones in Evo last week. The players that travel to venues to prove their skill or challenge themselves to improve. One-on-one, in your face, action vs re-action fighters to me hold the hight of compitition. You must have knowledge and speed to play, but the mind games involved at top tier players makes for great spectating. Of course most are still playing the same game from 5 years ago, which does not help the industry move product (I didn't read the article).
