Not nearly as much as Gameboy. When people see someone playing ANY handheld, despite manufacturer, they will say "Whatcha playin on your gameboy?". Game and watch, while earlier, had a much smaller impact on the market.GSZX1337 wrote:What about the Game & Watch?fox099 wrote:I think that gameboy is probably the most imporant and nostalgic item in the list. It really introduced people to gaming, and it was handheld!

I voted Gamecube, mainly because it was very neglected and a majority of it's library went unnoticed lost in the shadow of the PS2 and X-Box. My second choice would be the original Gameboy, that Tetris song isstill stuck in my head, and I remember playing Tennis with my friend with 2 GB's linked up...awesome!

The sixth Generation of consoles in my humble opinion is the greatest. Between the four main consoles, every genre reached new heights and broke new ground. It was the generation that took gaming "mainstream" mostly due to PS2, and it was the generation that helped a select few gamers become paid gaming pros thanks to Halo and Madden tournys, and lets not forget one of the greatest cult fav system ever, The Dreamcast!

Reading this seriously brought tears (of joy) to my eyes. I can't remember a generation besides this one that I owned all the consoles. Each one brought something unique and fun to the table.scottykick wrote:The sixth Generation of consoles in my humble opinion is the greatest. Even though I think the Gameboy article would be far more interesting than any other system (handhelds really get no love), I had to vote for Gamecube simply because as it stands now, as it was alluded to earlier, right now is the best time to be collecting games from the sixth generation. I recently was on quite the Gamecube kick and finished out everything I had on my list to buy but it would be nice to see if there was anything else I may have missed. Aside from MGS:TS, Ikagura, DDR Mario and maybe Pikmin 2 I cannot really think of anything else that warrants a rare/valuable title at least North American releases.
Perhaps it is hierarchal to say on a retro gaming site but as far as collecting goes right now, at least for me, I am most interested in the previous generation simply because I feel like every other console generation has been so throughly discussed. As far as the other choices go (aside from the handhelds) they are niche systems. I feel that if you own a Neo-Geo, Jaguar, 3DO, or TG16 you probably already know a great deal about the system and what games are available thus an article would be moot.
The research too, will have to be done at some point on the sixth generation. Why not start now? I too feel that sixth generation will allow for a more lively discussion than say Neo-Geo or say Atari 2600 since the previous generation is far more accessible than the aforementioned systems.

I disagree. For me, the fifth generation was the greatest. It had three consoles with entirely different styles of games (as opposed to the PS2 and Xbox from last gen, which had similar game libraries). It was a time when there were a ton of exclusive games, developers pushed the systems beyond their original estimated limits (This was present in the sixth generation, but not nearly as common), and the console manufacturers strived to make the best possible product they could.scottykick wrote:The sixth Generation of consoles in my humble opinion is the greatest. This generation reminds me of the fifth generation much more than the sixth, and in my opinion, that is a very good thing.
