Unless it has the exact same specs as the TG16 adapter, you're feeding it too much power and that eventually won't be good for it.
Sorry, I know this is an old thread... I just wanted to get some more opinions on this. I just grabbed a TG16, and need a power supply. Googling around I'm seeing several recommendations for the model 1 Genesis cord.
Can anyone explain to me again what conditions are needed for a power supply to be harmful? I know I've read it here before, something about the amps can't be too low, or the voltage can't be too high, etc...
A quick search tells me that the model 1 Gen power supply is 9V - 1.2 Amp. From the earlier post here, the spec for the TG16 is 10.5V DC - 730 Ma. Would this cause problems (long term or otherwise)?
Edit:

The TG16 has a 7805 voltage regulator so if its within 7-12v you should be fine.
As well make sure that the power supply you'd be using is at least 730mA or greater.
And that the polarity is correct.
The Genesis Model 1 / Master System power supply works fine with the TG16. I can vouch for that myself. No problems whatsoever.
Thanks!

I've been using a Gen 1 adapter with my TG16 with no issues as well.

Have an original adapter, and also tried a Genesis one with no problem. Thing is, the last few years i've been hitting up thrift stores and checking the specs of every loose AC adapter I run across, and never, EVER found one outputting specifically 10.5VDC. It's become a kind of a minor obsession at this point.

Check laptop power bricks. They come in all sorts of wacky flavors. I've made bricks for my CDX with its higher Amp needs and a thermal printer that needed 20 volts and 2.5 Amps from laptop bricks by putting the right plug on the end.

The TG-16 uses a bog standard 7805, so as long the voltage output is between 7.5 to 12V it's fine.
