Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I could see how it would get gunk and stuff off, but not fix actual scratches

i tried the toothpaste fix for the first time using like a bead of colgate whitening gel and one cotton round from my sister. ;P i followed the steps in most of this artcle and the follow up comment by racketboy http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/03/ ... mment-4576 that was needed to add more info details to this fix =] after i cleaned off the toothpaste i seemed to have added a slew of more lines but as mentioned in racketboy's article these scratches are less damaging than the fixed scratches

for my dvd disc had read errors while i was trying to rip it. the disc is printable tdk 16x dvd-r, made in india *tear. this makes me wonder about my other dvds.. ! anyhoo im trying to rip my dvd again after i did the toothpaste fix. my laptop dvd drive is still having troubles reading it. =[ i dont suspect the problems with reading my disc is scratches, because it was scratch free aside from a few lines. i have other suspects to point move to the top of my list, but i was hoping i could get my disc ripped easily with some toothpaste =[ now that i think of it ill try using my pc's dvd drive

media made in india is infamous. it was against my conscience to use it but i had 200 of them bought from a deal at costco wholesale.. =[ one of the discs even had a line of purple dye blotched lol. my dvd drive is taking the piss too (and one of the reasons why is because the drive that is housed in my dell laptop had a slew of dings while traveling from city to city, but im speculating enough on my drive already ;P). at one point i had burnt 5 coasters in a row (they failed to verify in nero) while i used my other dvd drive in my pc and nero successfully verifies. since i kept getting coasters in my lap dvd drive i stopped burning with that and burned with my pc dvd drive. strangely enough i dont remember my pc dvd drive failing to verify o_O i feel so duped !

btw my drives are
slim Sony DVD RW DW-Q58A UYS3
ata Sony DVD RW DRU-720A JY02

update:
whaddya know my pc dvd drive is reading it without a hitch... i nearly messed up my dvd that i rle didnt feel like replacing, lol because if it aint broke dont fix it ^_^ i thought my pc dvd drive is duping me, but rle, its my laptops ! it pays to have a gd drive ^_^

one more thing i like to add is my lappy drive could be picky about printable tdk 16x dvd-r while my pc drive is not. only until recently have i considered drives being picky about what media you put in, even if it seems to be a quality brand !

Personally, I'd just go for professional(and I do mean PROFESSIONAL)resurfacing. Except for Dreamcast games, as this seems to make them unplayable.

My favorite local retro game store will resurface any CD/DVD with their $10,000 machine for $1 a disc. It does a fantastic job and I defy anyone to distinguish a disc resufaced by their machine apart from a new disc. As long as the inner data ring isn't damaged or as long at the top of the disc isn't scratched or as long as the scratches don't reach the metal recording layer they can restore the disc.

They do accept resufacing jobs through the mail. If you don't have such a service locally, ship them your discs and for $1 apiece plus shipping you'll be gaming again without any problems.

coooool all thats missing in your pitch is the address to send our disks, if thats ok. do we have to trust you first ? o_O

speaking of the top layer of a disc, it would suck if a dirty printable disc wasnt protected on top and i happen to try to clean it with some water.. lol ! >< i think it didnt because i successfully ripped it on my other drive (as in my post 2 users up) =]
