What I was talking about is the ability to hold your firing position while you're moving. You press L1 I think when you're firing to lock the position of your weapon and as long as you keep it held in you can move about. It's very handy when fighting some of the bosses. You can also do what you're talking about in Hard Corps.Doctor Fugue wrote:I really want to play this game...I think some people were put off by the visuals? A lot of people don't like this game and I can't think why. It has all the staples of classic Contra games but with updated visuals. Some of the mechanics of this game are cool too, like being able to lock your firing position.
This locking mechanic you speak of, is that like in Hard Corps where you can choose to stand in one position and fire all around? I love having that choice...Gunstar Heroes is brutal that way becuase you have to choose one or the other.
Shattered Soldier get a lot of criticism, I think it comes mostly from elitist gamers who weren't happy that a Contra game was being updated with newer graphics. It's an amazing game, some parts of it are clearly ripped off from previous Contra titles though. There's a fun level in it where you're on a snowboard type thing. Definitely recommended to any Contra fans. Stay clear of Neo Contra though, horrible game IMO.
I think if I gave it an honest chance and a day's worth of dedication I could do it. I think people exaggerate the difficulty a little. Contra is far from the hardest game.ott0bot wrote:I haven't played Contra 4 or Shattered Soldier so....

2. Alien Wars
3. Super C
4. Hard Corps
5. Contra Force
How many of you have beat the first game without using up, up, down, down...etc?
A friend and I did it a couple months back....it was intense!

It's interesting to see Hard Corps as so many peoples' top one. I mean it was good and had a lot of cool features but I thought it was too fast and the robots at the beginning just didn't make it very contra-ish.
Being a big Contra fan IMO the top 5 are.
1: Contra (Famicom Version)
2: Contra (NES)
3: Contra 3: The Alien Wars
4: Hard Corps
5: Super C
Keep in mind I never played Contra 4 or Shattered Soldier.
