Secret of Mana, what am I missing?

I played through most of the game with my mom when I was younger. We actually got it for her birthday. She's a very ocd rpg players and must level up everything so when I was at school she would level up weapons and continue the story when I got home. Made it very easy having an extra player. Not to mention one who does all the boring work.
