Who needs current/next-gen?

wii

Post by alexkidd »

I loved my DC, but PSII, Xbox and GC didn't do enough to make me need more than the Saturn/DC combo. I will be getting a Wiii for sure just because it seems so unique and different than my retro gaming. Personally I'd take Gunstar Heroes and Shining Force III over the entire last gen of games. Actually I fibbed, because I bought a Gamecube, played through Metroid Prime and Windwaker then sold it haha.

Same here. I'm ignoring most of the new releases just because i'm consuming most of my time playing retro titles. Sad to say it but, my Gamecube/PS2/ got pretty dusty. For the past months i've been replaying alot of game for Saturn / Dreamcast. (occasionnally ps1) Figthers Megamix, Magic Knight Rayearth brought, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Rakugaki Showtime, Capcom VS SNK 2, Project Justice, Red Dog, ect. The only new console I've been playing would be DS. :D

I finally got another Dreamcast off Ebay ($33) and I am going to head to the game store when I come back from vacation and see what I can dig up since they still carry used DC games.

Ninja Gaiden 1! Impossible Eagles!

Post by Mega-Dan »

I agree with him, there are so many old good games, and they are just easy to pick up and play that I dont need to buy 50-60 dollar game to play a game. I just realized how many old games I never beat last month when going through my collection of games I got frustrated with as a kid.
I have never beaten ninja gaiden 1 Castlevania 3 or Batman for the NES. Those games are awesome! Ninja Gaiden 1 was abusively difficult before the advent of emulator savestates, those darned eagles that appear later in the game were the most difficult monsters in video game history!
Batman for the NES has got to be one of the best liscensed NES games ever made, and definitely one of the best batman games ever made. As for Castlevania 3, just came out after my NES started dying.
One game I used to be able to beat everytime, and I cant believe I did, Target Earth for the SEGA GENESIS, I cant even get past level three now. If you can beat Target Earth for SEGA GENESIS, you are video game genius!

Ninja Gaiden is my personal all time "Hardest game on the NES". There are some games that are harder like Bayou Billy and Silver Surfer, but they are harder because they suck due to bad controls and the like.

Ninja Gaiden is an awesome game and is hard simply because it is kicks your ass fair and square.

I found the contra games much harder then Ninja Gaiden. Wolverine Adamantium Rage is my all time "hardest". As far as RPG's go, I don't care for most RPG's i've played. Only RPG's i've been able to play all the way though were Final Fantasy 7 and 8. I really went nuts with 7 and unlocked everything ect... but ran through 8 asap. I also played though pokeymon red and blue, duno if anyone would count thoes as a serious RPG though :) I do play MMORPGs but they are more of a social thing, and I've been cutting back on them lately. Nothing all that great out right now.

Gave up on the wolverine game

Post by Mega-Dan »

I rented that wolverine game and couldnt get anywhere in it, and just gave up, it was insane hard. I used to beat contra everyday, eventually without even using the cheat. I played that game so damned much. I used to play it with my friend and he would just slow me down.
I agree with the gamecube with gba player being the best retro console, you dont even need to modify it. I play that 70% of the time and DS the other 30%, and usually the same gba game, I just take the cartridge out of the gba player in the game cube and play it in the DS! Thats how I play my old NES games, and all the cool gba games. Gba is great because the games are so cheap and look visually like slightly improved SNES games but with much improved play mechanics.

Really? I find the GBA games to look quite a bit lower resolution and the color looks a lot more blurry. I do play GBA games on my XBOX via gba emulator, might have something to do with it. I personally have my GameCube modded up the ass and it's worth every dime imo.

I use gba player on gamecube

Post by Mega-Dan »

If you use the gba player on gamecube, it considerably improves the graphics in my opinion. Yes gba has lower resolution, but it has better sprite handling abilities, so its six of one, half a dozen of the other. However, the gba player smoothes the graphics really nice on the tv.

I wasn't too happy with the GBPlayer's abilities. None of the games looked or sounded very good like that. But that's probably because I am used to Visualboy Advance upscaling to 44khz, and 4XHQ or 2XSai video filtering.
