Play them in the order in which they were made. If you play something before the original, it's gonna be hard to play it afterwards... They're all fun games~

I agree. You can see the progression of the series better this way. Besides, if you play the newer ones first, you might not want to go back to the older ones.

Wind Waker is an awsome game, Zelda or not. It looks and plays great. Don't avoid it unless you like having fun.

I would recomend starting with the SNES Link to the Past. You really can't go wrong with that. The N64 Zelda's are great too. Even if you find them off putting at first give them another try. They are both solid 3D action adventure titles. If you don't like those you probably wont like the later 3D titles either. So stick with your gameboy, nes and snes titles. I really liked original gameboy title Zelda: Links Awakening.

Wind Waker is brilliant IMO

I think in terms of 2D i would say start with Minish Cap, as it easier/friendlier than Link To The Past i think,
also it is chronologically the earliest.

Sorry, but I found Wind Waker to be a tedious game with bland side-quests which did not fire up any interest within me, or even have an enjoyable pay-off once they were completed. I simply felt no Zelda magic radiating from it, as it oozes from, Link To the Past, or Ocarina of Time.
And the animation although fascinating, is very out of place.

Yeah well I've never understood all the praise for Link to the Past. That game just didn't grip me at all. I've beaten it on SNES and GBA. Both times, I thought to myself how I should have spent my time on something better. I think it's easily the worst of the 2D Zeldas.

I think you may be taking it a bit too far by calling it the worst of the 2D Zelda's. It had clever puzzles, a plethora of optional side-quests (the best kind), a solid heroic story, and a little bird that flies you around to set points. The gameplay is everything you could want from a Zelda game.
I think whats missing from your Link to the Past experience is, heart.

I would have to say that I enjoyed Link's Awakening the most out of all the Zelda games I've played. LTTP and Twilight Princess are close second and third for me. Ocarina is awesome, but not at the top for me. It's still an amazing game though. Picking a favorite Zelda is tough. It's like picking what girl you think is the hottest out of a group of hot as shit girls.

The only Zelda games I ever found uninteresting were the Oracle of Ages/Seasons games. I just couldn't get into them for some reason.

"Everybody's favourite" hmmm. Never been able to get into them. Played em all (except tp) for an hour or so and never touched em again. I don't know why I don't like them, I mean they have all the ingredients there for me to love them, but they just don't grab me.
